My New Trooper

Hey wareagle

Everyone always asks me where the rear bumper came from and I never know what to tell them. Any suggestions?

It was built by a guy named Chris in Mansfield, TX. I forget the last name, but goes by OneBadTrooper. If you google him, you get tons of links. many are the build for this bumper.

I noticed your lift was 2". It was 5". 2" was OME coils, 1" was a custom body lift, and 2" was daystar poly spacer (for a 2wd dodge ram).

PS:

One of the factory manuals is very very valuable to the isuzu community. It shows how to disassemble and reassemble a MUA5 tranny. Many have borrowed it over the years for the teralow installs. Keep an eye on www.planetisuzoo.com. There are a couple of guys that may ask to borrow this book.

Thanks I changed it. 2" is what I was told it was. I noticed the several of the manuels are very valuable.

BTW what size tires did you run on it? Right now it has 255 with plenty o room. Jacksonbase said he had bought new tires right before he sold it and I was curious to know what size you ran.

Also I changed the CB to a cobra with a front mount speaker. I will try to take a pic tomorrow and show ya.

THe largest tires were 33x12.5/15 and 34x10.50s. I do not think that 35s would fit. Also, the engine and gearing combo is not up to the task fo turing 35s. I felt a major reduction in power when I went to 33x12.5s. That's one of the reasons Jacksonbase went with narrower & lighter tires.

More mods

I have spent the last weekend making some more adjustments and changes.

First I finalized the new CB and fabricated a mount for my XM radio. I love having music, news, and talk anywhere in North America so the XM radio is usually one of the first mods I do....

Next I turned my attention to the aux light set up. The low fog lights in the ARB bumper where toast and needed to be replaced. After looking around I found some that fit perfectly. I also rewired the lights with a new lighted switch.

I also replaced the bulbs in the 130W pro comp lights up front for a more consistent beam pattern. I plan on upgrading the front lights to HID sometime soon but new bulbs for now will be fine.

More to come...

Next...

And now to my big project this weekend. The rear door of the trooper is flat and perfect for a rear door table. After a week or so of research I started building....

In the beginning...

reardoorwo.jpg

Taking my door panel off I saw that I would have plenty of room to mount all the hardware I would need. Taking some measurements I came up with a table that was 14 inches deep and 30 inches wide. Just enough room to make a sandwich, or cook with my coleman stove.

I spent a long time thinking through different materials. Several people have used cutting board material but when that gets wet it gets slick. After over thinking for a few days I just went with birch. My plan is to stain it and put a heavy layer of poly on it to help it hold up better. My thought is, 1 this will hold up pretty well, 2 if it ever gets trashed and needs to be replaced I can do that easy and cheaply and 3 wood is the original multipurpose material and will look nicer stained than a white piece of plastic would mounted to my door.

After putting the plan on paper I got to cutting...

Then I measured like a bizillion times and started drilling into my door panel. the table sits at 36 inches high (just like a kitchen counter) and is supported by a piano hinge and nylon webbing. It is held to the door with some threaded plastic knobs.

I only got this far...

All I have left to do is, mount the nylon straps, take it all apart to put the finishing stain on it, remount the door panel, and wire the aux cooking light.

As many of you know my weekend ends on Sunday morning so that's as far as I got Sat night. I will post complete pics when I am finished later the week. :sombrero:

I just realized I never posted any finished pictures of my table. It works great and stores up out of the way when not in use. It was easy to build and turned out great. If anyone wants any close up's or details just let me know and I will post them up.:sombrero:

Great looking expedition-ready truck, Paul, table and all.

I'm still stoked you were able to find such a well-outfitted vehicle.

I suppose we oughta post up the pictures from BBRSP at some point, eh?

NICE WORK there mste, I love it.

I like having my Tail-gate, but I miss the old Ambu-doors on the 1st Gen Trooper I grew up driving, I really like not having to lean over the tail-gate to load stuff and these folding tables everyone's making look so awesome and like such a good use of space IMO. i truly am a sucker for clever engineering eh ;)

Again, nice work mate.

Cheers

Dave
