My Woody expo trailer.

I too am interested in the suspension, more so on just the fast washboard. Most importantly are my carbonated beverages going to foam after a long dirt road and/or any glass bottles broken? I know Timbren says that shocks are not required. Do you have any differing opinion about shocks?

In response to both questions.

I traveled with this so far on pavement and forest service roads. No serious trails yet.
The suspension is great on both. At highway speeds 50-60 no sway or any thing nasty. On washboard (FSR) at slow and faster speeds it handles well and stays firmly on the road. Mind you on a couple corners i had it sliding pretty good. On wash board i was driving between 30 to 50 the suspension works well and takes wash boards with no bouncing on jumping..Had no broken eggs or foamy pop. The setup from timbren is good as it is i don't feel the need for shocks.

When i had this made from timbren i ordered it with the provision to add brakes to it if i needed to. The setup i have is 2000 lb load with 3500 lb spindles. With the weight of the trailer even fully loaded being light the need for brakes on the trailer is not really necessary. But when i ordered i thought better safe than sorry. I have 4 wheel disks on my Jeep so it stops the load with ease even at highway speeds.

I think I need a bigger truck!
Like the way it looks all blacked out now Mike!

Yes, I was following him up that FSR with him towing said trailer for our trip. The Timbren suspension looked to be doing its job very well. The trailer stayed glued to the road, no hop, no bounce no wandering, and it stayed planted to the road very well. My CDN M101 with the stock leafs and new OEM shocks was also doing very well, similar to the Timbren with a little more wallow as it is heavier and more top heavy. If you are looking at suspension options, the Timbren looks to be an EXCELLENT option. If I were building from scratch, I would likely go this way for a number of reasons, mostly for the superb ground clearance, simplicity and stout build quality.

BTW, this is one of the nicest pieces of ply/glass/epoxy I have seen, and I lived on and around boats for much of my life. Almost as nice as my trailers lid (which Mike also built)!!

:D

PS are my mud flaps ready yet? lol

Decided i needed to carry a spare for the trailer. Worried on longer trips of not having a spare for each. Plus want to make some changes to my galley layout need a sink so back side of tire swing out will hold a double folding table and bracket for Hot water heater.

here's some shots of tire swing out so far.

It will lock into trailer receiver on back and be locked in with a pin.
Cheers

As usual, looks great. Were you planning to have it tie up the receiver? Since you are in the design stage, is there any thought to finding a different way to secure it so you could still use the receiver down the line? Maybe a gate latch type of hardware like the one in the below pic.

Your work always turns out amazing so I'm sure whatever you do will work well

Thanks for that TheThom, i guess i got one idea in my head and ran with it with out thinking down the road. Changed it now to use toggle lock. :)

Cheers.

Looks good! I'd recommend one more gusset on the upright. Once you have the weight of the spare on there, it will put added stress on your weld. Another gusset is easy and would sure it up pretty good.

Well stage one of the change is more or less done. Have the swing out all fabbed now to add drop down table and mount to it for hot water heater.

gordinho80: i had planned on more gussets for the tire carrier just were not in pics, Thanks for the thought tho :) ..

some pictures,

Cheers

Tongue weight changed a little from what i can notice just picking it up with tire mounted. Table and bracket on the back will only add maybe 5-10 pounds more so it should still be fine.

I am very interested in how you sealed your doors, could you describe what gasket material and how is it fixed. Is it on the main part of the body or on the door.
I'm keen to see how you did your seals too. You only had a 1/8 gap from memory. Any dust/water getting in?
