NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

LED's are always better. Who did you go with?

In this case it as a cheap Chinese bar I picked up at the most excellent place in the world; DragonMart in Dubai. I figured at the cost, probably like 100AED or something (i.e. $27), it was worth trying out.

I like the wheel carrier. Is that a rubber stopper on the back resting against the lower tailgate?

It was at the time, I told them that was a no-go as I didn't want it vibrating on the paint. Now it has a few mm seperation from the door. That said as it gets some other adjustments made I'm going to have them take it off and just put a stop in on the pivot + potentially on the rest where the tire carrier stops that sticks up from the bumper.

Prospeed roof rack; major component culmination

Rack was delivered today, took me about 45min to install solo but I have to say it is an extremely well engineered piece of kit for this platform. Lightweight, strong, and with shockingly great tolerances given that we're talking about fitting to a Land Rover.

I'm going to work out a bracket for the front area to put the maxtrax on the truck, and antenna mounts at some point upon return to CONUS, but this marks the last major component to the build that I can fathom especially with the rear swing away added. There are plenty of other things on the list mind you, but this is pretty close to exactly what I'd imagined.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I've had mine over a year and still haven't gotten round to making some thing up

As you say, its a super bit of kit

If it is at all decent I'll make two and figure out a way to get it over to you here, there, or Dubai! I'm going to end up over in Mussafah wandering the metal shops I think.

Have a look at these guys, might be good for some ideas.

You probably already know but in case you don't you can buy the pins in Icon

Those are pretty interesting.

I actually brought a set of pins back from the US, I mounted a couple of pair of maxtrax on my D1 and fab'd up two pieces of aluminum with holes appropriate distance apart for the quick detach pins and brought it all back know the rack was coming. Now I just have to figure out how to tie into the existing structure of the prospeed b/c I'm not drilling that thing! Am thinking of tucking them into the 'basket' area formed by the fairing and using the foremost rail with some angle to serve as the start point, likely with two cross pieces tying together the pin holding metal...(this all makes sense in my mind, likely nonsensical in prose). The key is securing the cross pieces, I've got some ideas for that.

Yeah I know what you mean :)

I've been carrying them on the drivers side toward the rear and using the passenger door opening and wheel arch to access them but I'm now thinking they're going to go on top of the shark fin at the back. Like you I need to make up a sub frame. In this case to level the r rack where it slopes down.

What are your plans for an awning?

What are your plans for an awning?

Awning was frowned upon by the better half (was going to get an ARB), going to hold off on that till we're standing in the rain somewhere together and point out again its merits! Longer term plan, like Phase IV of this truck, would be to get a Baroud RTT for some journeys but that is some time in the future.

You made me smile Ray when that image popped into my head.

When she sees the error of her ways, if it fits your plans you may find the Prospeed awning brackets a useful addition.
They allow the awning to travel "inside" the confines of the rack while in transit. For deployment they fold out to put the awning in a similar position to those traditionally mounted on the outside side rails of racks.
