In addition; save everything (your import/export email boxes and browser files from you legacy PC) onto another drive and or burned to DVD/CD for safe keeping.

GEEEEEEZ... They are fast. Ordered Friday morning, here today.

Now comes the exciting task of switching over :yikes:
You'll never look back! It will be great to hear how you use it in the field. I'm on my 4th Mac laptop since 1993, the most recent one being similar to yours. I seem to get around 5 years of hard use out of them. Enjoy!

Does anyone know how to port IE favorites to safari or firefox? I have ten years of expedition and adventure links saved up.

On your PC, go to Firefox, <bookmarks>, <organize bookmarks>, <file>, <import>, then choose <from internet explorer>. That’ll import all of the ie favorites to Firefox.

To export from firefox, follow the same procedure, choosing <export> instead of import, and choose your location (flash drive recommended).

To get the file to, and import your bookmarks to Firefox on your mac, plug in the flash (or whatever) then open Firefox. Click on <bookmarks>, then <organize bookmarks>. Click <file>, then <import>, choose <from file>... you'll get the rest.

Hope that helps a bit.

James, you rock amigo!

No worries Scott! I just went through all of this about 6 mos. ago, and will NEVER go back to a pc.

There are some minor annoyances with a Mac- everything is drag and drop, poof! "where's my file?", lack of 'delete' (pc-style) button, and getting used to a one-click mouse, etc.

All minor stuff when you weigh out the differences. You'll be stoked on the Mac, feel free to post or PM other inquiries, and I'm sure there are folks here who can help.

Have fun exploring the new Mac!

First post from the new MAC! :wings:

James, the import worked perfect too.

Importing SIX GIG of Outlook files is next (nervous laugh).

WhereTheHellIsJames,

To delete files like on the PC, using the delete key, press command + delete. As far as multibutton mice go, you can use any PC USB mouse on the Mac. Then configure the buttons under System Preferences. I really enjoy working with my mighty mouse. But it can take some getting used to the default settings. If you squeeze the mouse, it acts as a third click...

For the portables, there's an utility called Sidetrack allows right clicking.
You can visit the developer website here.

Right on Alvaro... Thanks for the advice!

I think out of everything, I miss my delete button and right-clicking the most, and never knew about the hotkey or the utility that you pointed out.

As far as the mouse goes, I know that any of the mice will work, and I have a Microsoft mouse that I use when I'm at home, but the big thing for me is on the notebook itself when mobile. I think that maybe there are two solutions for me: get a wireless mighty mouse, or check out that Sidetrack utility. Actually, I should probably do both of those.

I've been a PC guy since the early days of Windows, and the transition to Mac is still in progress. However as I have said before, I am really happy with the Mac, and I doubt that I'll ever go back to a PC platform unless it is critical- such as some CAD/Design/3D modeling programs that are not made for Mac. The good thing though, is that I can run Windows natively on my MacBook Pro too! It really is 2 computers in one.

Thanks for that link Alvaro!

This is exactly what I've been needing, I don't use my Macbook mobile as much as I used to (the Asus EeePC took over most mobile tasks), so when I do I miss the right click even more! And I love the two finger scrolling, but it only works vertically, I need horizontal also for most of the photos I try to manipulate...

Scott - Enjoy the Mac! As you've seen, you can ask just about any question here and get several great answers! BTW - I sent you a PM a couple days ago about a moderator-type question, thanks!

Getting close! I have the Mac connected to my second monitor now and all of the email imported (it worked!).

MS Office is loaded and working.

Does anyone use Entourage? I am using MAC mail right now and like it so far. I would be curious what the advantages of Entourage might be.

Thanks again for all of the help everyone.

I dont use Entourage so i wouldn't know.... i use Mail. Works flawlessly and is always quick. Second monitor over here too on a iMac.. which your not supposed to be able to do :hehe: MS office works perfect just like it does on a PC.. dont ever buy THINKFREE for your office apps... it sucks so bad. We tried it here and went back to MS office.

While you have a ton of programs open hit F9 :)

I just switched to Entourage today 'cuz my office started using Exchange for shared calendaring, etc...I like Mail alot better.

What version of Office did you load? We have '04 and it is far from quick on my Intel iMac...If they want me to use Entourage, the least they could do is spring for '08 (Universal)...disgruntled? Nooooo.....
