Definitely E rated is the only option in that size. Here is info off the US BFG web site. In Canada the list is $408 ouch.

Well, I was badly in need of tires so I finally broke down and got new ones. Since BFG apparently doesn't make the new KO2 in 265/70/17 yet (not until next year) I went ahead and got the "old" version.

One thing that is strange is that on both the Discount Tire and the BFG web site, they don't indicate that the BFG AT KO has the "severe weather" rating.

Well, just FYI, it does. Mine has the little mountain/snowflake thingy on the sidewall. It was one of my requirements since we can get snow and ice here about 8 months out of the year.

We got 4-5 " of snow this weekend and the new tires are just awesome on the snow!

I would like to have waited for the new design but the "old" design is pretty well proven, so I'm happy.

I have 40k on my "old" BFGs now, and they are awesome. They look brand new, ride smooth and have all the traction off road I need. I am taking them off this week to install my winter tires. I never run anything but a dedicated winter tire as they perform miles ahead of any snowflake AT tire. And, NEVER use a MT for a snow tire. I did that one season after talking to others......NOPE. Never again. That was a scary winter. Luck would have it the tread on my tires cracked bad and got a set of AT hankooks as a replacement as well as a set of trail cutter snow tires.

These seems to be very popular now. I stopped by Discount today to look at one in person. He said they were selling quite well. Luckily there was a truck in getting a rotation with the original ATs for a quick comparo. These will be my next set once the KM2s wear out. Luckily that will be around next March when the 34x10.5R17 comes out.

Please post on here your thoughts on that tire. I'm also considering that tire for my LJ.

Its nice to see a big name tire manufacturer producing the taller and narrower tires like the 34x10.5. Way to go BFG.

You'll all love this... I talked with a MAJOR tire manufacturer at SEMA (NOT BFG!) about the new BFG A/T. They've had a few set through benchmark testing now... I mentioned that the old BFG tread left a LOT to be desired in ice/packed/wet performance compared any modern tire. The engineer that I was talking to responded by saying that the NEW BFG AT was THE BEST non-studded/non dedicated winter tire that they had ever tested on ice.

Sounds like BFG finally brought the A/T back to the front of the pack!! He did indicate that it is possible they've compromised something else about the tire (treadwear, cut/chip resistance, etc) but could say without doubt that the winter performance was top notch!!

Keep the long term feedback coming in!!

Bummer, I just had a new set of BFG A/T T/A's installed and I received the old style. I replace every fall with a new set as a partially worn T/A just doesn't have the grip in snow as a new one. I find the T/A's to be the best compromise for the terrain that I drive: 600km of pavement plus 400km of gravel/shale/mud/snow/ice weekly, all year long. From my experience on the terrain I drive, a winter tire is a bigger detriment off pavement than the T/A is on wintery paved roads. The quote above stating that the new style T/A is much better on snow/ice has me wishing that the new style was on the truck now; perhaps my tire size/load range E is not available yet?

I had a look at them at Costco the other day. Definitely a much more modern design. Lots of shape to the tread block unlike the old square everything ones. Ill be interested in some long term reports.

Here is a pic of a 265/75r16 I found in stock. Hopefully will get them installed on the Montero tomorrow.

I just got a set for my son's truck. I did some research old v new design before purchase. Per BFG, the new design has a 20% stronger side wall. Which seems reasonable, given the extra rubber on the side walls. The tire is also claimed to do better in mud as well. As has been commented on here, the center of the tread is very similar to the old style, but the edge of the tread has larger lugs that will grip on mud better. Also, as noted, supposed to be very much improved in snow and ice.
As to visual, to me they look awesome. The side wall 'lugs' will not only provide better bite when aired down, but give the tire a more aggressive look.
