My wife had difficulty registering it here in Georgia; she's from Brasil and they don't cotton to no durn ferrinners around here...
So I put on a flannel shirt and camo hat and went there. Had it registered in 5 minutes as a "utility trailer" that was under the cut-off weight for GA hassles. Got a crowd of them around the computer looking at my online pictures of it.

Just go in and cozy-up to a smart veteran. Always works for me...

locking the trailer...

I am planning to run a braided steel cable through the handle on one side door, around and under the spare tire and lock it to the other side handle. Like any lock, someone with 15 minutes and alone in the woods with some tools would be past this system. But it would keep campground, parking lot and passerby's out.

I called Dean yesterday, looking for the custom forms and was passed to Cybil? waiting to hear back... Bill, what was the weight cut off in GA? Mine is 1,000 lbs. I was wondering if I have to get a certified weigh slip locally if I could remove enough stuff to get below it ; )

Thanks for the secuity idea.

I dealt with Cybil. She's great! Very helpful.

I registered mine for 2900 lbs Gross. Under the limit of 3000lbs which would require brakes. Also in VA trailers under 3000lbs do not require an annual inspection (which would explain why I see so many POS utility trailers running around) unless they have brakes, in which case an annual inspection would be required.

No weigh scale slip was required.

I think I was 1K also. I showed them the paperwork that said 1650 Kilos for GVWR --- explained that it meant gross weight laden, divided by 2.2 to convert into pounds, and came up with a dry weight of something like 450 pounds.
I'm a professional at fuzzy math.

I initially thought about installing a multi-axis coupler. Doesn't seem necessary in all but the most extreme trails for me. [/url]

A regular ball coupler gives you 15° of movement off vertical. Once that amount is exceeded the likely hood of the coupler coming off the ball is very high.

I think you can picture a situation on a tame trail where you have to cross a wash out and the vehicle is cambered in one direction and the trailer in the other. It doesn't take much to exceed 15°

Martyn,
I really like your coupler. I expect that it would require welding a receiver on to a nose plate on my Compact. True?

You would weld a 2" receiver tube to the tongue plate, then the coupler could slide into that.

I'm not sure if this is tongue in cheek or not? You know that 1650Kilos is actually 3630 pounds, not 450... right?

Finally was able to set the trailer up outside at our local 4x4 show. I had a crowd around the trailer all day. I had two people offer me $9000 for it. I told them no but directed them to Adventure Trailers since they would have been my first choice. Hopefully it will spark some peoples interest in the trailer idea.

Thank you for sending people our way, we appreciate it.

Have any of your Conqueror owners found or devised a good locking system to secure the doors of this thing when its unattended. I would hate to lose a fridge.

I got stainless steel marine lockable hasps. Involved drilling *gulp* but looks stock. Not a "real" security feature, but will prevent casual intrusion.

It was very tricky to install and involved a bit of Dremeling to get it to fit right.

Wish Ida gotten this:

locks?

Can you post a picture where you mounted the locks? Did you use self tapping screws? I really don't want to drill out the rivets holding on the SS counters to attach the locks. TIA
