Hello all-
I've done the deed and as of tomorrow there will be an '07 LR3 HSE sitting in my driveway awaiting mods. Oh, and it's got the HD package as well.

My first Rover, so I've got a LOT of research to do. This whole fly-by-wire and IFS/IRS thing is pretty new to me. I wasn't really looking for one; I was looking more at late TJ or early JK Rubicons (with mods) but the wife pretty much said 'I want the LR'. OK then.... And the reality is it will be a better vehicle for 90% of what we do. I may have delusions of rock crawling the 'con (hey, it's only a couple hours away!), but the fact is we're more likely to be checking out some unknown fire road in the Sierras than attacking 3' ledges.
>
Anyway, just a brief introduction. I've been reading heavily on the forum for a while...mostly the classifieds but now I've got my work cut out for me in the LR sub-forum.

Plans are pretty modest. roughly in order:
lift - likely rods plus GAP tool
tires - ATs, possibly MTs, not sure on the size until I do more research on what I can get to fit. Thinking 32" but maybe a little more? More research...
Armor - rockers to start, likely some skids as well. Without much tire and a lot of expensive stuff under there it seems like a good idea!
Bumpers/winch - bigger tires will require a rear carrier, and although the front approach angle looks pretty good I have a tendency to say 'hey, I think I can get through there' and I also tend to travel alone, so self-recovery is important.

This won't be a daily driver. The plan is a trail rig that's comfortable enough to drive 8hrs of interstate to get to the trail in the first place.

It's been a long road to get to this point. Over the last year I've looked at everything from XJ's on 35s (great crawlers, but on the road??) to new JKURs (too many $$$) to 80 series LCs (too beige) to Discos (too scary...and this from a guy who drove and raced Alfas for years). Hopefully this will strike the right balance between on road comfort and off road capable without costing so much I'm scared to use it!

If any of you have some recommended threads for a new LR3 owner, please feel free to share. The same with vendors as I'm just getting into this.

Thanks in advance!
