I really like the way it's coming together. It's certainly going to keep you busy with the updates and mods.

One thought though, do you want to brace the front edge of the slider? I know it's strong tube, but one more support would make it on par with the rest of the slider...

Went to test fit the starting battery, found that the van bodywork was just a little in the way. There is a tray that runs below the step in the doorway, I thought I was screwed, since the drivers side has a big bundle of factory wiring in there. Pull the step on the passenger side, empty! So I cut it out

Cut some sheet metal, tacked it in place

and then applied a heavy coat of sikaflex to make sure it was weatherproof

Battery fits just fine now, need to get the mounting finished.

Also got the drivers side armor welded up, but I will have to move some stuff off of the inside frame rail before I weld it to the vehicle (so I dont cook it)

All caught up again on pictures, try to lay into again this weekend

Front spring hangars in the way, no place for the support - It is 3/16 wall, I have confidence it will be strong enough

Edit: I think the pictures make the front edge look longer than it is, and the last frame attachment really seemed like the last good place to attach - It is where the frame kinks back towards the center, and is maybe 5"-6" from the shackle for the spring hangar, without a good attachment in front of the hangar. The arrangement seemed like the best balance of coverage and attachment points. I'll try to find a good as-installed picture from the side.

13 Cheeseburgers
Got new clear lenses for the load lights and the side flashers

Didn't need four lights on each side, so saved two for load lights in the back of the van up high, and will use two as auxillary reverse lights.

Needed something to cover the holes in the side, and wanted something that looked like the rest of the vehicle - Went with aluminum diamond plate

Strong work. Loving it!

You might want to consider using all of the side lights for "scene" lights. I loved having the scene lights set up on different switches for checking things out at night (camp sight clear?), and general lighting around the rig. They're also pretty handy for tail-gators and people who hover in your blind spot.. :coffeedrink:

Is the suspension compressed in your bump stop pictures. From the pictures of those tubes you are going to have a lot of down travel but very very little up travel (4"?). How often did you bottom out on your travels back?

4" is plenty on this rig. Any more & the differential would ********** the engine crossmember. This van will see 8-10" of front axle travel.

That is my intent exactly - Left, right, and rear 'scene' lights each on a separate switch, although only 2 lights on each.

Man, nearly a month since I posted on this? Cant say as I got a lot done in the mean time - Passenger slider welded in place, 2nd starting battery mounted, rear LED taillight and load lights cut in place and installed, clearance lights all replaced with LEDs. Nothing hooked up yet electrically. Otherwise, nothing else.

Got some great ski days in, however. Three day weekend to Silverton with a couple of feet of new, two one-day runs up to Flagstaff the last two weekends. I have a ski trip to Alaska planned at the end of April, need to get my days in before then. Quick sailing trip with the Hobie to Lake Havasu this coming weekend, so I'll just be nibbling at the vanbulance until May.

Hobietony, what's up?! I want to see that cool topper you made up on top of the ambo-van! That's the fatal flaw with these ambulances is no standing room, and you are the great hope!

Haha, seriously though, i'm excited to see it. I think it'll be great. Life been busy?
