OBI Dweller Review and Discussion

I guess we’re calling it the end to our third camping season with our Dweller 13. Life keeps happening and snow is on the way!

The good news is that I have very little to report. The Dweller has just been humming along and following me where ever I want to pull it. It’s done well on moderate 4x4 roads and a couple a little more then moderate.

Lithium upgrade and some new tires is all I plan to do at this point. The bracket on the back of the bench seat did rattle loose and the bolts got lost into the cabinetry, but the bench is the dog bed so I’m trying to ignore it.

Some pics from our last spot. The week before Labor Day, in the Four Mile Creek area East of Buena Vista, Co. The Princess puts it into our Top Five, that says a lot!

Awesome pics of your camp. What's the skull and sword flag about? Is it a pirate thing?

Had a great trip!

Few things to fix, shock, table mount was loose, batteries are not lasting think they are just old, weather stripping around the bath vent.

Otherwise good trip, 600 road miles, towed great. 30 miles off road, hauled good, went everywhere I went, mostly dirt roads, couple of sudo Jeep/truck roads.
Is this the D13? Any issues with the Gladiator pulling it?

I have an Ecodiesel Rubicon and am possibly looking into the D15 or a similar trailer. I've seen some that are similar with bunks in the front for future kiddos but don't know if they'll be too much for the Gladiator. Do you have airbags or have you upgraded springs?

Yes D13 and no no issues at all towing it.

I have a 2.5" AEV lift (designed to carry more payload than stock). I do have Sumo springs but am not on them loaded up they are just there if needed.

While I have the v6 I do have a supercharger, so power and tq are higher, in line with the diesel tq.

Took our 2 week road trip around Arizona territories. 2k miles total, 1 blown tire on the way home, small price to pay for all the great times and memories.

Just returned from a 2 week elk hunt in Colorado. 1st time out in our 2022 Dweller 15. Really enjoyed the camping in the Dweller. For years always used a 11 x 17 wall tent plus last few we added a 11 x 16 awning for extra outside space. Quite a big difference in the two. We did rig up a 12 x 20 heavy duty tarp to cover the cooker and fridge. We had 40mph winds a day or two so we added extra ropes on the sides and front. It held up. The awning on the Dweller would have blown away. We didn't start out with full batteries as we were unable to plug in before going into mountains. Our Iceco fridge had E1 error message until sun came up and solar panels kicked in enough power to run it. So, when we got to camp we took fridge off camper batteries and hooked up a 1000W Jackery power station and its solar panels. We never lost power on either. The Jackery is the way to go. Without it the fridge would have been useless after a day or two. We never could get the heater to come on. We did not have a remote control as dealer didn't provide. I tried the wall control, power on, selected heat and fan speed but nothing. We ran the AC at home using same control, it worked fine. So not sure what problem is on the heat. As everyone knows the manual is nonexistent. We did change out the shocks to the Monroe Mag 60 series which took out the sway. Finally, on way home we had a blowout on the hwy. I figure the unit sat for over a year and the flat spot weakened the tire. I'm taking the other tire on ground and replacing both with new tires
I'm glad I found this forum as I'm learning a lot. Tried calling OBI but no answer.

Did you just plug in generator and run AC or did you adjust the controller down to 5% as suggested by the guy living in a Dweller full time
Update on the Generac 2500i. My wife had mentioned to her friend at work that the generator we bought didn't work on the ac and her friend offered to try out her generator. She said it powers her campers ac so my wife brought it home. It was the same generator... I started her 2500i up and it ran way quieter and I was skeptical it would even work. I plugged the camper in and the ac fired up right away. I pulled out the one I just bought and started it up. It idled way higher and when I plugged in the camper it revved up way high and shut off like it was doing before. Long story short my generator must be defective out the box. I'm excited that this little, quiet generator works. I just have to exchange mine.
Did you just plug and play? Or did you adjust the controller to 5% as suggested by the guy on youtube living full time in a dweller?

I have traveled from Oregon to Florida a few times in my fifth wheel. I purchased new tires to be as prepared as possible and had 3 flat tires. Then to find out a year later there was a recall on my tires that I had no knowledge of . you can never be too prepared. after contacting sailun, they reimbursed me for the damage caused to my fiver and the new tires I had to purchase. I must say, thankfully they where very helpful. U might wanna think about switching out your batteries to the lifepo4 Along with a victron charge controller and inverter. Your remote for your heat pump should be under your bunk where ur heat pump is, in a “ secret” compartment on the topside of heat pump. Yes, Obi does not answer their phone because they suck ! Great trailer but really poor customer service. obi has no business being in business ! I would not be surprised if they close down soon. Obi, is ran by a couple of 20 year olds. Vincent and Dustin along with Vincent’s wife. They are very woke and sensitive.

happy trails !

The heater is not run by the remote, the remoste is for the AC. There is a heat pump on the AC but your not going to be able to run that with batteries, that's a generator or shore power thing.

The propaine heater is controlled on the small panel along the bulkhead by the bed. It's the same one that yuou turn on the water heater.

How did the blow out go down?

What tires did you replace them with?

That's one of the plans I have for spring, replacing the tires, was planing on replacing them w LT Falken Wildpeaks.

Hi all. We had our D15 out this weekend and I inadvertently tested the durability of the powered step by dragging it up and over a tree stump. The tree stump won. Has anybody had to replace theirs yet? Curious if anyone knows of a direct (or better) replacement. Thanks!
