Some great news for everyone considering using the F550 as an expedition truck platform!

For the last several years we have had many many customers asking us for camper bodies for the F550 range. The big obstacle was always the lack of subframes. For the last two years Durrance Design Group has been working hard in refining a solution. I thought now is the time to share this great news with you guys!

https://www.ddgoverland.com has designed a subframe concept that can be fitted to the truck frame without any truck frame modification. The truck can always be brought back to original factory setting. Or the whole system can easily be transferred to another truck. Basically a bold on solution.
Together with them we have designed a camper body to perfectly match this system.

For subframe questions please contact DDG Overland directly through their website. Camper body question please to us.

Pricing for the subframe starts at only US$12,000.00
The flat packed camper body kit is ~US$ 15,779.00
Please note pricing can change without notice!
Not included: Windows,doors,taxes,shipping

Cheers!

Very cool.

I feel like an F550 is overkill for my needs, but I'm really enthusiastic about companies that are working to amortize some of this NRE work into multi-customer products, instead of there being a whole universe of one-off custom builds out there. :D

Any chance you guys would ever do this with a 1 ton sized truck? Not sure if it’s possible or necessary

I think they are all fully boxed now, so a subframe isn't necessary.

In the case of Ford, you'll need to buy a truck with the bed (not cab&chassis). Don't know about the others.

only fully boxed under the cab, the rails where the campers mount are still c channel and still flex a lot (by design)
If you are talking about Ford, that is only true of the cab-chassis models. If you buy a 350 with a bed, it is fully boxed.

is that for just the pick ups or cab chassis? They both have different frame designs. The cab chassis has straight rails where the pickup has the typical step build in.

cheers

Just the 2017+ Super Duty pickups have the fully boxed frame.

From Ford's link about chassis cab trucks:

"The chassis cabs have a fully boxed frame under-cab with C -channel aft-of-cab frame." See:

I thought all F550s were cab and chassis, any pickup bed ones you see were done after the factory. If the subframe fits them it shouldn't be too hard to make it fit a Dodge 5500 or the new Chevy/International CVs as they are all commercial cab and chassis trucks that are all the same frame width from the cab back, just need to pick the right CA for the subframe.
