Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

Just a few more images of the Discovery. I have owned this truck longer than any other vehicle. It is also Overland Journal's first project vehicle.

Now I am moving into refurbish, restore and service mode with the truck to help it last as long as possible. I plan to address a bunch of little things with it. They are are little things as I am already ridiculous when it comes to maintaining this vehicles.

I really hope to see this thing driving around town one day. Makes me feel awesome that I have a Disco 1.

Scott, that's a very fine example of my favorite expedition vehicle! There's something very special about them. :)

However, here's the bumper it should have (a real one):

Just out of curiosity, what percentage of the Disco I's came with 5 speeds?

Thanks,
Todd Z.

I remember reading somewhere less than 3,000 total. I do not know for certain, but some guru will. I do know they are super rare and now fetch a premium. Most were the 1994 and 1995 years with a rapid drop-off in 1996 and the final year being 1997.

Thanks Scott. Up until yesterday I don't think I had ever seen one other than yours. I happened to see two 5 speed trucks near each other in the same junkyard yesterday. I did a double-take.

Todd,

Which yard? Phoenix or the 'skitt?

It was one of the Phoenix yards I frequent - I'd have to look up the name. One was the green color I really like so I took a pic of it. The u-jerk-it in PV often has a few RRs and Discos in it too but like around here, they're usually pretty well stripped or thrashed. The ones I looked at last weekend actually had the majority of their interiors in them.

If you're ever looking for anything in particular, just let me know.
