Overland Journal testing Sand Mats/Ladders

Ok that video pushed me over the edge. I'm now a subscribing member to Overland Journal!

I still have hopes for the wafer board since it can play a few other roles on the road. But I know I won't be picking up any Pillow tracks anytime soon!

Loved the video, can't wait to read the article!

I liked the video too and it would make a nice addition if it came with my subscription.:sombrero:

Also, I do wish the Journal came more frequently. Maybe every 2 months or even monthly and I might start to have my thirst quenched.:coffeedrink:

I agree with you TeriAnn, those look to be the ones to get. While 'sand ladders' have some appeal, if I'm going to carry something like that I want them to be bridging ladders too.

Snip.............

Looking at the video left me thinking that my choice of Mantec bridging ladders was a good choice. I like the way the edges dig into the sand keep to the ladder in place where others slipped. My only problem is that they are bulky to carry.

Good Job!

LOL!!! That was classic at the end with you two sitting on the bags.

Looks like my Mantec sand ladders do just fine and shoot... possibly hold a 4 door JK... why not our 80 :D

Looking forward to seeing your report in the OJ.... nice "trailer" video Scott.

Yes, we need them tested in snow. How do they perform when they are sitting on a hard icy surface, covered in snow and the tires are wet and snowy as well?
Tis' the season...Let it snow let it snow let it snow...

Fantastic video. Ends leaving the viewer with wanting more. I think OJ should do many more teasers like that. Great visuals to compliment the magazine as well.

As for predictions, I'm guessing the Mantec bridging ladder wins the editorial award as the most effective products, and the waffle boards win the value award.

After reading through this thread, I was thinking the waffleboards were going to be the winner with the bridging ladders as runner up, but the video flopped their positions in my mind.

I'm probably going to get waffle boards in the short term, and down the road upgrade to the mantec bridging ladders when I find myself getting out remote more often.

One modification I made to my aluminum bridging ladders (I'm pathologically incapable of leaving anything stock) is to add boat step grip material to the flat areas where the tyres meet the aluminum. The stuff has stayed on for 5 - 6 years now and other than being chewed up a little has survived well. This keeps the tyres from slipping off when everything is wet.

They can also be used as seats if you don't mind sitting close to the ground

Great video indeed!

I used sand bags for the trip - they're called Ease Out and sold in South Africa. They lasted all the way to Sudan but eventually disintegrated. They did work much better than I expected, were cheap and did not take space.

Some in the west are getting them. You should see it in the east any day, though there is likely a delay due to the holidays

Hoping it gets here before tomorrow. I'm going to need it while visiting the in-laws down in LA this week.
