Packing Heat...who does it?

Rob,

Another thing to keep in mind is Texas is not California. People act differently and should be handled differently as well. When in Rome, you shoot Romans.

Good to know if I ever travel in Texas. Always bring an armored vehicle and keep someone in the top turret at all times.

Sounds like a friendly place.

Intelligence seems to be the better defence...

I would only consider carrying and using a gun in the african bush or in Greenland / Spitsbergen and even there using it would only proof my misjudgement of the situation

Worse, if the Kiamichi mountains are known as battle zones, is to venture there looking for peace and harmony.... My apologies for assuming formidable constitution in the decision making areas. Sincerely.

Sadly, peace, harmony & solitude are difficult to come by around here, no matter how remote you think you are. No harm done, apology sincerely accepted. :friday:

A smile and pleasant word can often defuse a potentially dangerous situation....There are some real nasty classically evil people out there, but most of them are not and will live up to or down to how they are treated.
Agree wholeheartedly...

A lot has been inferred about my post where no inference was made, but suffice it to say that:
1. This particular area should not be characterized as a known "battle zone", but it is no different than a lot of the remote areas we have near us in the south/central US.
2. I don't jump out with weapons drawn, nor even necessarily visible unless I feel that visibility is called for... which thankfully has not only been seldom, but correct (judging by the conclusion of events) in the situations .

In such few cases, the situation can only be assessed by the judgment of the people there, and not the judgment of people on the internet.

I am comfortable with my ability to assess situations and to respond accordingly, and I have no reason to doubt the abilities of others here.

:)

There are many highly intelligent people that have suddenly, and prematurely, been found at ground temp.

we had a gun with us paddeling the Sambesi. That made us feel better, but probably wouldn´t have helped much if one of the crocs diving toward our canoe or one of the hippos would have attacked us.:(

shot by angry and frightened armed people who were misunderstanding the situation??

sorry, don´t misunderstand me, I like shooting. I can imagine situations where a gun could be usefull...but I can imagine many more situation where a gun would lead to escalation.

and hiding the gun when crossing borders is asking for touble...

Dang, sure am glad I'm just a dumb ol' redneck from California and don't get invloved in these types of intellectual conversations:sombrero:
why must it always degrade into "trash talk" when ever these types of subjects come up. Personally I think the world would be pretty boring if we all thought and looked and did the same..

and watch out for zombies..:Wow1: they carry concealed:peepwall::hehe:

Wow 10 pages so far.

What if this thread were titled "How many of you carry a winch?" would we have all the heated debate? It is only an inanimate object. Just as Larry The Cable Guy Says "If guns kill people, then I can blame my pencil for misspelled words." Fourty years ago this would not have been a political discussion, it would have been an equipment discussion.

Is a winch not like a gun? Could they both be defined as a tool needed to get you out of a last resort situation?

The decision to use a winch/gun is a personal decision based on the persons perception of need for such a tool. I would of course think that any person before using either tool would exhaust all other options by using all their smarts and abilities first.

Judging people by what items they like to own does not seem right. There all all types of people in all areas of interest, yes there are generalities you could apply to certain specific groups, but nothing as broad as "gun owner".

Just as ExPo is not the run of the mill off-road forum, as a group we tend to be more civilized and informative than others. Hint Hint

Interesting thread so far:lurk:

this is incorrect, and could land the LEO into a heap of trouble.

It's not incorrect. All it takes is ONE person saying they "felt" threatened by you to receive a Brandishing charge.
