Pelican verses Zarges

Roseann and I have been using Zarges cases for three years now. They're fiendishly expensive. However, they're very light for their volume, and the space efficiency is far superior to Pelican-style cases. The standard Zarges cases are not completely watertight, but they're rainproof and completely dustproof. The best thing is, they come in dozens of sizes, so you can take advantage of every square inch in your load bay. They also stack. At home, you can buy a set of heavy duty casters from the company, and then stack five or six boxes on top of each other, fully loaded and ready to go, but easily wheeled into a corner.

A Zarges case will dent if kicked hard enough, but they're tough and should last a lifetime. We're hooked on them.

Corey, the company recently dumped one of their original reps. That might have been whom you talked to.

Thanks Jonathan, do you know if that rep was from WA. state?
He stated he did not live to far from me I think.

I did find the first OJ issue too, I had forgotten about the article.
Same issue as the roof top tent comparison.

PS, what model are you and Roseann using?
The ones in the OJ did not look like the Euro ones I saw on the site today.

I saw them in the new issue of OJ too with the Campinglab review on Roseann's Cruiser.

If I went with a Zarges box, I found two sizes that can work with the Euro ones.

ZARGES EUROBOX ALUMINUM CASE - 21.7 X 13.8 X 12.2" ID

Above is also available 15" tall, but it might be better to stick with the 12" tall one.

Longer ones:
Same width and height, just longer.

They are not listing their prices though, so I imagine they are quite high.
I will have to call the 800 # to get a quote on them.

I like both Zarges and Pelican, but the Zarges have more usable cubic inches and are MUCH lighter (Pelicans are heavy IMO)

BUT, I dont like doing business with companies that dont list prices on their site. A crappy website has lost many a company my business.

I know what you mean.
Why not list the prices unless they are afraid it will make most runaway.

They also mention on the site it may take up to 10 weeks to get these once ordered.
If so, I am sticking with the Storm cases.
But Storm does not have the long case like the second one above by Zarges, and I really like that size and shape.

I should know by tomorrow the price on it.

I don't answer the Pelican vs. Zarges question here, but I did want to present another point of view: My personal preference is for surplus military/commercial environmental cases over brand-new and EXPENSIVE Pelicans/Zarges/Hardiggs.

Kind of hit-or miss, but you can get 4 decent military shipping containers for the price of 1 Pelacan or Zarges:

I got a couple of these for $45 each:

And these (unused) Hardiggs were $75/each. Pelican 1400's were $27:

These were $50 each, If I recall correctly:

Maybe I'm just a cheapo...

Thanks Alan, those look nice too.
To bad they do not have the size I want, only Zarges does.
However I got my quote today, and I am afraid Zarges is off of my shopping list now as much as I like the looks of them and the fact they hold more in their volume than the plastic type of boxes..

Want to pack with one of those Peliboxes?
I am still looking for one, for my Camera.

We have opted to go for 4 Zarges Boxes, used ones from the "Bundeswehr". Shipping from Germany should not be that bad, since they are light. I have paid 50€ per Box (60 x 40 x 50 cm) ~ 24" x 16" x 20"

Find tons of them on the Germany Ebay.de.
If you need help just ask.

Now see, even that size would work for me (24" x 16" x 20") but I take it you are in Germany?

Got a website for those?

This is the website of the electronics surplus store where I get the containers every now and then.

Corey,

I believe the cases that "Crusader" is talking about are ECS COMPOSITES.

Yeah--those are the green ones with the interlocking tops, though I paid nowhere near what they sell them to the governmentr for.

The store is out of those Pelican 1400s now. I sent a bunch of them to forum members who asked me to pick some up for them a few months ago. They only have a half dozen of the brand new gray Hardigg cases left (at least they did 2 weeks ago)...
