Well I actually have a few NVs in the shed, but I told myself I'd go through the Getrag one time just to see how it lasts. Next tme it WILL get a 4500.

I can go through the Rag for just under 200$ top to bottom, where as I'd have 500-900 in preping a 4500 including buying a bell, And that getting parts at cost.

Well, been working on the exhaust brake that was on the truck when I bought it. The po removed the compressor and tank and didn't care about wires or anything like that so were startng fresh on the wiring. The Brake valve was stuck when I got it so we got that freed up and working good now. The last few nights have been spent mounting the tank, compressor and tonight we reinstalled the brake valve and had to adapt it to my 4" exhaust. We also plumbed all the air lines tonight, however I will need a T so I can run some line back t the tank that will operate the Kelderman air ride when it goes on. On the list for tomorow is a trip to Surplus Center for a switch and some relays, the we will get her wired up.

It'll be nice to rarely used the wheel brakes.

Will you have to do anything with the valve springs? I recall people talking about stronger springs, or is that for a different type of exhaust brake? I would love to have a stick and ex brake on my truck.

Well, It on and working now.

BTW On Sunday Me and a friend took a little impromptu trip to Nashville Illinois to drop off a 12v shortblock and a Dana80 axle, its about 50 miles west of ST Louis and as expected the dually performed flawlessly. It was about 1000 mile round trip and I got 17.5 mpg

I just finished reading this entire thread. What an excellent job on the old truck making it work like it should. I very much can understand wanting all the little stuff to work correctly. I hate hate hate non-working lights, etc..... I love it when someone takes something old and makes it work like new again. It is so much better than buying new and just driving. There is no pride in that! Nice work! Just please hook a gooseneck to it sometime soon. :smiley_drive:

Thanks for the compliments, As of now the only things that don't work are the Key halo ring, the fuel guage and the park brake.

Yes, non working light are a huge pet peeve of mine also.

As far as the gooseneck deal goes, I gotta put a hitch in it. I have one I fabbed up for it but I gotta lift the box and I might as well put a fuel sending unit in while we got it up.

Excellent! I had a non-working fuel sending unit on my '98. I cost me a good bit of money to replace, but I was so happy to see the gauge go to F when I finally fixed it. Hopefully the Park brake will be an easy fix for you.

Been a while since I updated this thread. Since the last time i postd here I have put a new ignition switch in, got the key ring light working, replaced pressure switch for the exhaust brake, Fixed some more wireing that the po hacked all to hell, I have also installed a CB, A better radio (I actually just robbed everything out of the 90). And today I did the most important thing to date, I put a goat head on the hood
