1996 Mitsubishi Delica Spacegear

Boy, you guys have some great vans! Really enjoying seeing the individuality of all the rigs. Here's a pic of my baby...



1996 Mitsubishi Delica Spacegear with Crystalite roof - 2.8 litre intercooled turbo diesel - 2WD/AWD/4WD, limited slip rear diff, 3 inches of lift in the suspension, Duratrac 31x10.5 tires, ProComp 9000 shocks. It has a Terzo rear ladder, Aiba Works roof basket, Shady Boy awning (on other side) and is set up for over night excursions.

These vans look top heavy but are rated to 45 degree side slope and are incredibly capable off-road. Was muckin' around with the camera in the driveway to give some human scale to the van... I'm 6'-2" tall.

Thanks! You should be able to get in one unless you are REALLY tall, which I presume you must be. More leg room in the Spacegear than the L300 Starwagons (had one of those prior to this). Still... 'cool' rules over 'comfort'... doesn't it?

Hayduke & Jalapeno: What size tires are you guys running?

Sorry about the slow response! I am running 265/75/16 General Grabber AT2's, and Mickey Thompson Classics in matte black. At first glance a lot of people think its 4wd since it has a nice stance now. She rides buttery smooth and gobbles up the miles. I have been looking closely at the U-Joint conversion kit. If I can solve a few other bugs then I won't mind investing in the conversion. Its a tough decision though as I bought it with 116K and I don't want to have $20K in a $12K 200,000 mile vehicle in a few years. I have impulsively gone down that road with rock crawlers and its not fun at all when it comes time to sell.

Iceman, cool video. Also watched your Lead King Loop video, that was great! Love that area (haven't been there but i'm dying to go)! I have a colorado guidebook that lists that loop as "difficult" due to "a few rocky spots and stretches of narrow shelf road where it is difficult to pass." I saw the narrow road in your video, but nothing looked crazy rocky. Was it gnarlier than it looked? Would you need a high-clearance vehicle to make that loop?

The reason i ask is i'm prepping an AWD Astro for road trips and I'm torn between 2" or 4" lift kit. I'd prefer the cheaper and simpler 2" lift and the ease of getting in/out of the rig, as long as it will be sufficient for where i want to go.

What rear axle do you have installed? Does it have the disc brakes? Mine is a semi-floating axle, & I would like to upgrade to the full-floating axle. Also; what did you do to lift the rear suspension?

And lastly: I love the look of the Hummer 2 wheels. I am currently tracking down a set of those.
