Point Five Ambo Build

was watching various videos and stuff..... actually I think compared to what it could have been... PC beach did ok. Stresses aka... past suffering from hurricanes and subsequent better/stronger rebuilds and PITA stiffer building codes.... kept it from being reall bad. Not sure about things out Tyndall AFB way... it too not been hit hard in a while so Parker, Callaway. and Tyndall may not have saw the reality of the need for as strong a building codes as the beaches have seen.... so they may be not as up to snuff. Now Mexico Beach..... same issue.... they have not been hit in a long while so building codes and not as much stronger rebuilds from previous hits has occurred thus that may be why it was worse there..... though also winds and flooding was worse there too.

From the pictures and videos I've seen so far it looks like Mexico Beach, which was on the east (bad) side of the eye, doesn't exist any longer. It looks like total destruction. Right now, the death toll stands at 1 in the USA and was the gentleman who was killed in Gadsden County, FL, when a tree came down through his roof and pinned him under it. Emergency crews could not get to him in time due to downed trees and power lines on the roads.

I look to see the death toll increase in AL, GA, and further north because people there are not used to dealing with hurricanes of this magnitude that come up from the Gulf.

Mexico Beach is totally destroyed.

They even had a huge freight train consisting of 50 something cars that was pushed over on it's side. It's leaning on another train on the other side of it.

sending best thoughts to my FL. brethren and sisters

Thank you! If anybody over there had internet or cell phones that worked, I would pass that on.

I wish I could go over there and help, but my time has come and gone, and my old body just won't cooperate any longer.

After thinking long and hard about the damage that Hurricane Michael did to the towns just East of me, I decided to take a month or so and concentrate on getting my F250 truck in shape to deal with the aftermath of something like that. It has several small things that need to be repaired, and several pieces of equipment I want to add to it.

Repairs needed...

1. Front automatic locking hubs need to be cleaned and repacked so they will lock/unlock properly.
2. Windshield washer is inoperative. I can't find a fuse for it, so the motor may be bad.
3. Power mirrors a inoperative and need to have the stripped out gear mechanisms replaced.
4. Headlights are very poor, so they need to be polished or replaced as needed.

Equipment to add...

1. Aux LED back-up lights.
2. LED dome lights inside camper shell.
3. Install Whelen Amber Traffic Advisor under rear of cargo rack or inside rear camper shell window.
4. Install work lights on both sides and rear of cargo rack.
5. Add off-road lighting to the front.
6. Install switch and radio center console between the seats.
7. Dual battery system.
8. Winch with permanent mount.

I recently picked up a used Warn Polished Stainless Trans4mer Brush Guard and Winch Mount. Not only will this give me a way to mount my winch permanently, it will provide a platform to add off-road lighting as well.

It will cover the area where the OEM Fog lights go on my 2004 model...

...but I have several mounting options on the brush guard itself.

I'm also considering adding a light bar like this for off-road use, but I wouldn't be able to use it while driving on the highway. However, I have seen some combo or hybrid light bars that have fog, driving, and flood lights all built in. Some even have flash patterns build in so it can be used as warning lights. I need to do more research on these for sure.
