Pett Stability

I love the Pett!

As a woman, it can be kinda scary having to swat down. I constantly worry about what creature might pop up to say hello and or possibly give me a little nibble! :yikes:

I seriously do not want to camp without the Pett Potty in tow!

So, Wen, would you recommend the PETT to all female campers who may wonder about the the stability of a 3 leg toilet?

Nori thinks it would be unstable...

Perfectly stable and very strong. I know some 300+ pound dudes that use it no problems.

Have "Nori" sit on a 3 legged stool on uneven terrain. Then have her sit on the same terrain on a 4 legged stool. Then decide which one is unstable.

The PETT is as stable as using your toilet at home. I weigh over 300 lbs. and it is rated to hold 700 or 800 lbs.

...thanks. But I wouldn't set my wife up by setting up the toilet on slope... :smilies27

I've used these in Iraq and I understand the robustness of this item.

What I'm after here is a female endorsement that will add credibility to my personal opinion.

Just trying to convince my wife that this is indeed the MOAFT (Mother Of All Field Toilets) :D

Even on level ground, with slight unevenness, 3 legs won't wobble compared to 4. BUT, the entire thing can sink into wet or sandy ground. But the PETT has a plastic bottom cover option that solves that and other potential ick-inducing problems.

Ideal for completely enclosing the PETT toilet. Cover the folded legs when storing the PETT toilet to prevent critters and insects from making their homes in small crevices or eating the mesh holder.

Like the lid that covers the seat, this cover may be placed under the legs for added stability when used on soft terrain.

I would totally recommend it! At first you are concerned about the 3 legs.. As I did, Nori may tend to "hover" before realizing that it is in fact ok to sit all the way down.

It is slightly lower then a standard toilet, but once you "land" on the seat all is well!

Plus, not having to worry about critters popping up to saying hello to you while you are in that oh so vulnerable position is a HUGE plus!!!

oh.. I should note:

We use the Pup Tent to house our Pett Potty when it is set up. At night I was a little nervous about snakes or scorpions wondering in there to stay warm.

That just may be my little weird thing...

Bottom line: I just don't want to be scared when I am indisposed and I tend to freak myself out! :REOutShootinghunter sssh, don't tell anyone though

I second Wen's statements about the stability of the PETT for both women and men. We love ours, and spouse is ever grateful that we got one. She tolerated the pit for many years so we could enjoy being away from it all, so getting the PETT was a giant step up in comfort and convenience. When the weather is not cooperating or we are concerned about potential night visitors, we put up a screen room and the PETT occupies a corner.

Well, after reading everything, my wife and I bought the PETT and PUP tent. It showed up yesterday (having placed the order Sunday afternoon :Wow1: ).

The PETT is very simple and should work great. It definitely is lower then a standard house toliet but not too bad. The "bowl" opening is also a little smaller then a standard round seat opening.

The PUP tent goes up quickly but almost requires two people to do it. You have to lift it from the center top part to then be able to lock the legs into their keepers. This would be very hard to do with one hand holding the top and the other having to pull back the spring clips and insert the rods. Two people, it's cake.

Taking it down and getting it to fold up to fit in the sleave style cover does require everything to fold just right. Again with two people, not bad but with one, I don't think you would get it without a lot of effort.

Again, this was all done in our living room so no idea what it will really be like out in the wilderness, with the wind, dirt, etc. Hope to find out later this month.:26_7_2:

I just ordered the pett from you Will for the Expo Trophy and I might just have to try it in the backyard before then....figure better to figure it out at home than waiting till the "urge" strikes :)
Ah heck, just try it out in your living room :D

I got bored one weekend and set mine up.
The tent setup very quickly.
A little harder to take down.

So is that where you set it up when you have dinner parties? :xxrotflma

Nice, you have the Zodi pump one.
I am still undecided on what brand and model to get for a shower.

Update...

We've put a lot more trips on our Wal-Mart shower/potty since my previous post. Still haven't found a design I like better. Easy to setup/teardown, built-in floor keeps your feet clean while showering, drains quickly, nylon pockets for soap, clean clothes, etc. It's also sturdy enough for desert winds when anchored properly. I took a shower in 40mph gusts this weekend in Death Valley- not the most comfortable experience but it got the job done.
