Need to get a proper build thread going but here is Possum Overland 001. Still coming to grips with the 25% tariff when I brought it home. 
. Mostly used for driveway naps while I plan the kitchen. Little AC heater gets it toasty in no time. Tacoma Hybrid bed plug charges the EcoFlow while driving nicely. Diesel heater and Mt Hood snowshoe trip over the holidays is the plan, if the snow shows up!!

Got the camper for only $1000CAD as it had some water damage, but after a weekend of work it's all dry now albeit a bit ugly lol. Everything inside works just fine and I installed a 5kw diesel air heater inside the camper and on the truck I installed an 8kw diesel coolant heater.
My original plan was to restore/rebuild the camper, but I've since fallen in love with mid 90's Kodiak truck campers so I'll soon be purchasing one of them as well as a clapped out 05-07 F350 4x4 dually which I'll swap engines with as my 06 SRW has a bulletproofed reman with only 200k and tons of upgrades and is extremely reliable and when all said and done I'll most likely give the Citation away to someone who could use it.

There are a few folks on this forum that have done rebuilds of Kodiak campers as you describe. Have a look at my avatar....
I have done a couple and 'trackhead" has also worked extensively on his. We both used the 8.3 short box version. These campers are a great starting point for a camper build, not perfect, but pretty darn good. Using the "search" feature here on EXP will get you going.....wpgf350

I actually really like the build quality/look of those 94-99 Kodiak's so I would only being doing touch ups and add ons and wouldn't be doing a full on rebuild. I hate when I see beautiful wood finish interiors painted over with bright white paint.......basically turns a cabin feel to an office feel and no way on Earth I'd ever do that, but to each their own of course

I agree with your observation of the original build quality and especially the interior cabinetry. I know some folks feel that the oak has a bit of a "grandma's kitchen cabinets" look but like you, I was totally fine with it. The wood "then" was so much nicer than some of the stuff today.
If you were going to do one thing during an update of an older Kodiak (or any of the other brands that use fiberglass exterior panels, bigfoot, etc.) it would be to closely examine the external joints that hold the sides on. They all use this kind of goofy system where they cover the joint with a flat aluminum extrusion, screw the two fiberglass panels together through this extrusion's pre-drilled holes where they overlap and then cover the screwheads with a molded black vinyl trim that fits into little lips on the edges of the aluminum.
Mass production at it's finest!! As this original RV quality vinyl trim insert breaks down (and it will as it shrinks, cracks, etc. over time), water gets into the joint, rusts the screws and creates a perfect place for moisture ingress. Removing and replacing this trim allows you to examine/replace the wayward screws and then caulk them over the heads which is not done during the original build (more "time is money" labor intense tasks with the original factory production....). Of course, re-caulking the top and bottom edges of the extrusion while you are at it is always good. Not that hard of a job but it will pay you good, long lasting dividends without getting into a huge exterior project.
