Post your Camp Awnings

Over the weekend I did a test run of my new awning set-up. The main purpose is the block the sun at the beach this summer. This set-up provides significantly more shade while taking up a fraction of the space as compared to beach umbrellas. I'm also hoping that the set-up works well enough to also keep the rain off when camping.

I fell into an old boat boat sail a few months ago, It's from a Lazer and appears to be a jib. The original owner retired it after it got a few mouse holes in it.

The poles were salvaged from an old freestanding tailgating awning. I plan to eventually replace them for proper poles, but they were free and fit perfectly under the back seat of the jeep.

Before the awning is ready for use, I need to add track down some parachute cord, and install some additional grommets on the sail.

Sewed up a waterproof tarp; fabbed up some brackets to attach it to my roof rack and used some copper tubing and tent poles as supports. I think I paid about $60 in supplies. Rolls up to the rack.

Made one this weekend from 2 adjustable tent poles, an 8x10 tarp, some paracord and tent stakes. I have $32 invested in the awning thus far and love being able to get out of the sun while camping, grilling, beaching, and working on things while on the trail. :smiley_drive:

Greg, No guide ropes use in pictured set up. I would not purchase if my intended use was with the optional 4 pole set up. With wind as with any awning tie downs would be needed. Never used in rain but the dome design was one of my buying point when purchased. The awnings dome is formed from fiberglass poles so I feel good about its ability to shed rain. The flexibility of use was the strongest buying point for us.

Grabbed a picture of my Bus Depot Awning in action today. Nothing hangs off or attach's to the vehicle when not in use, transport size 10"x28".

I just might have to get two of those...I am really liking them.

One item - multiple applications. Tent fly, lean-to, hasty tent. SilTarp 10x12; packs to the size of a cantaloupe. Load Tamer cinch locks, scissor clips, 550 cord guy lines.

I had this custom made to fit my trailer and it works great. I can leave out any two adjacent poles and that side folds down evenly and smoothly.

I have used this canopy a few times, and it has been quite good. Not as elegant as a Hanibal, Eezi awn or ARB...but for $60, why not...

If you want it to seal to your vehicle for use in the rain it will require some modification, and you may need to trim the poles to make it level. I bought one on a whim, but I haven't really used it yet. The quality is about what you would expect from Walmart, but probably isn't much worse than the busdepot version. My problem is setting it up with a wildernest, any one have any ideas?

After the whole Twin Springs Eastern Oregon rain storm debacle I went for a new awning system. The other stuff was neither reliable nor convenient.
Fernando at Campinglabs to the rescue:

Speedy shipping and great customer service as usual. Mine did arrive with a problem. One of the plastic buckles was broken. I happen to have quite a few leftovers from boat covers, so I stitched a new one in and put it all back together. A new buckle and a few pop rivets were all that was needed. An easy fix since I had all the parts lying around.
No "out there" time on it yet, but I am ready to go now! I am still waiting on the back ordered Stilletto awning which , I hope, will serve to enclose one side or the end.
I should be better prepared for the next Eastern Oregon Rain storm, or just the desert sun

Thanks Walt, I have a Lowe's on the way home, they have it for a few bucks more.
I am sure they would match Home Depot.
Question is if I can stuff it into the rig or not.

Ah yes, 7030, I know the area quite well up there.
Deciding whether to go there for my vacation, or back up to the White River campground at Rainier.
Leaning towards the latter since it offers very closeup views of the mountain.
