Well the Carli front diff guard is now installed. Took about 10 minutes and that included getting the tools and pulling the truck around back. The only tools needed are a 1/4" ratchet, extension and 13 mm socket. I also used some Honda #1 lock. Honda #1 lock is the same as locktite #1. #2 or red would have been acceptable as well. There is hardly any loss of ground clearance and the protection gained with the added piece of mind is worth any loss. Heres some pics

As you can see the the rear seal on the axle is leaking. I suspect this is common among Dodges. I had this same leak on my Gov Dodge truck that I sometimes use at work. I will have it changed out this week. Also I started the build out with a 3/8" ratchet but quickly switched to a 1/4" and small socket. The second pictire below is looking at the back of the diff guard. You can see there isnt much loss of ground clearance. Sorry the camera wasnt quite level.

I know its been covered in other threads somewhere on this forum and for sure others (http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ering-damper-skid-plate-t191948.html?t=191948) But I wanted to also go into the little detail needed to convert a Power Wagon skid plate for a 2500 or 3500 Dodge Cummins Diesel powered truck on this thread.

I've got the Carli diffguard also. Sage and crew designed it after a truck hit a rock with the front diff. Pulling it back in reverse peeled part of the stock cover toward the front causing a leak. They got out with a trusty hammer and restored the seal until getting back to O.C. I'm hoping to get either his or Thuren's arms on next.

PART ONE:
I ordered my front skid plate from (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=213975) My cost was $42.60 delivered.
I then proceeded to cut off 2 x 6 1/4" of steel of of the back section (see pics)
This skid plate was designed for the Dodge Power Wagon which has the 5.7 Hemi engine. As pointed out earlier if you dont cut off the back piece as described then it will hit your Cummins oil pan and put a nice hole in her.
It took me about 10 minutes with my cut off wheel and grinder to remove the section and then dress out the edges. I decided to round the corners out a bit.
A few passes with some black paint and she looks factory.
I will see how bit the axle tubes on the axles are. Someone said they were 3.5" and others have said 4". You need a U bolt to attach the skid plate to the axle. I will pick up some U bolts and see exactly what is need in the morning.
After a few passes with some rattle can black I started to remove all of the damned shipping tags and other stickers that were plastered all over the skid plate! That took me at least 20 minutes. I didnt have any Goofoff but some bug and tar remover worked pretty good.
OK here are the pics. I will finish it up in the morning and post the final pics.

When I was browsing there site I discovered the Diff Guard. I once smashed my Ford Explorers front diff. I didnt want to got through that again so I ordered there diff guard. I think in your story they used a rock as a hammer to get her sealed back up.

Yeah,the rock did the job.:victory: I did the Mag-Hytec rear cover@ 9,000 miles. The diff fluid reaked to high heaven. Amsoil Severe-gear 75-90 went in. When I did the front diffguard,the front fluid was like new but I replaced it with same. There's a guy on www.cumminsforum.com selling a steering gear brace for a fraction of what I paid. Excellent feedback on his product. It's a very cost effective preventive measure.

Well while the wife is off to town I sent her with a "to do" list. I need a 3.5 U bolt to see if it will work for the front skid plate and to get the oil changed out to Amsoil. I also am getting to oil capacities for the transmission and transfer case, front and rear axles. I am also getting a quote to have that front axle seal replaced. Ill order the rest of the fluids today when I know how much and what type and weight I need to get.
