Man, this sounds really cool. Too bad it will only work on newer trucks from 1996 and up, I guess it needs OBD-II. What a bummer.

kcowyo, I have one of these and I like it as well. I don't mind the buttons being a bit "old school". When you're trying to adjust some of the settings while driving, they have a hard click, which is nice so that you know that you've actually pressed it.

Main reason for purchase: to be able to read trouble codes in the field. I've been on a few trips lately where a "service engine soon" and "check engine" lights have come with mine and other vehicles. Definitely a plus to know how serious a problem could be.

The gauges are nice too. The only trick with the trip computer regarding fuel consumption is that I have to remember to tell it when I fill up the tank.

Also, regarding everyone's list of items they wish it could read/ report on: I believe it's limitations are due to the ODBII spec. If it's in there, it's in there...if it's not, it's not.

Good luck. For the money, I don' think you can go wrong.

I've found the SGII to not be very accurate on fuel economy. If you drive exactly the same on two tanks of gas, then it is accurate and repeatable. But if one tank is all commuting, and the other is loaded up and in expedition mode, the mileage reported will usually be off quite a bit.

Excelsior!
I have mine mounted on the top of the steering column where I can see it when I look at all of my factory gauges.

I was able to fine tune the Scangauge display color to match the factory panel lighting fairly closely.

I have mine in the same spot. I think it's an ideal location, especially if you are using it as a compensated speedometer.

...Disappointing on the lack of reading for tranny temp... especially since I have a tranny temp gauge ready to install but no place to put it. I'd love to just have it taken care of by the ScanGauge rather than installing an additional gauge.
That may no longer be a problem:

Looks like a good investment. Too bad trans temp is not offered.
I agreed so I sent them an email asking if they would be adding a transmission temp option.

We are adding a feature to the next software release that will let you add vehicle specific gauges for your vehicle. We will show on our site how to add it for Fords, GMs and DCX vehicles with more to follow as available. It should start shipping in June, and all ScanGaugeIIs already out there can be reprogrammed to add it.

Yes - fully switchable between miles and KM. I have my unit showing speed in km and fuel in MPG.

Most excellent!
Where did you purchase your unit?

I ended up ordering directly from Linear Logic (www.scangauge.com). I called the 1-800 number to ask for a Canadian dealer and they said they had a shipper in Ontario. So I paid them directly and they shipped it for free from Canada. No duty, no extra taxes. But from their website it sounds like they aren't doing that anymore.

Apparently there is a dealer in Nova Scotia now... check out the dealer page on their website.

But before you buy, make sure to do some Google searches (don't forget TTORA and Tundra Solutions) for group buys. I have seen them for as low as $130 on GB's and free shipping in US ($15 to Canada).

Excellent info HenryJ and teotwaki. Thank you -

Unfortunately it doesn't look as if any group buys are going on, nor is it still available for under $159 anywhere. However I still think it's a good buy at the list price of $169 w/ free shipping.

I didn't get around to ordering this today, but I still intend to order one this week. It's great to read so many positive reviews and the numerous additional benefits of this product. If the manufacturer intends to add a tranny temp gauge, all the better.
