Love your trailer. If I got a little guy I'm pretty sure I would do the exact same thing as you. Just out of curiosity, about how long does it take them to build a custom trailer like yours?

I was told 6 - 8 weeks is their standard build time. My "customization" didn't take any extra build time - a little more time was taken working out the axle details.

Scott, would be honored to make the run with you guys. By then, you will have that thing set up like the Hilton. Mine continuous to grow. I may make this April run, not sure.

I think for the average guy, the LG set up is a very good deal. Looks good, great people to work with, and it is every bit good enough to do 90% of the trails in the country. I know one thing, you will never go back to a RTT situation, nor will the other half!!!.

I dunno about 90%. I'm pretty skeptical haha. Though, I'd love a TG so I can set up my basecamp and then go explore.

I may have gotten carried away, but most on here do not really use their TD trailers as expedition units. Most look for base camps it seems. Some of the box trailer guys drag theirs places, that most would not drag a TD. Smaller footprint makes it easier. I have seen a couple of the LG's on trails around MOAB. How long a tear drop survives depends on where you drag it, how you drag it and will it squeeze through.


I think, personal opinion, is that you need to be able to move the trailer around physically by hand, damage occurs being outside the wheel track of the tow vehicle. Meaning you can disconnect, lift the tongue and make adjustments so you pull through close quarters. Now this situation very seldom happens, for most how and where they use theirs, it would never happen. I have had to disconnect a couple of times, use my winch and pullies to pull the trailer to where it needed to be to clear a rock or tree. Not a fun deal, but if the tongue is extremely heavy, it becomes nearly impossible. Damage occurs. And it always happens when I decide to run an unknown trail, that looks too interesting to pass up. Also at the end of a narrow trail that dead ends due to a fallen tree or rock slide, it beats trying to back out.

So since the axle thing was a bit confusing to me and maybe you can just reassure me on this, is your axle and brakes the same set up you would get on the Rough Rider? Or did you change it?

I believe the RR comes with 7" brakes and I wanted 10" brakes. Dexter does not put the larger brake on the smaller axle, so I ended up with an axle upgrade also. I also requested an axle with a down angle (as opposed to the 0-degree axle normally used in the RR.)

I don't like to admit it, but I now prefer not sleeping on the ground. The teardrop is plenty roomy and not too big. And, I don't have to pound in tent stakes (which is hard to do on solid rock.)

When are you coming camping with us? I figured we would have run into each other by now...

I just may be putting in an order soon so any info is greatly appreciated.
