Alright guys, the transfer case has been replaced! It's up and going in 4wd now. I will try to get by the shop this weekend to take it apart and get some pictures of what actually failed.

I really hope to never have to replace it again. I'd like to give the previous owner a piece of my mind too! Lol
The transfer case in these things is not easy to R&R at all.

Tell me about it. I'll be doing my 2nd one once the gears are in the spare xcase.

Love these Monteros. I have a friend with one and it goes most placed that my Jeep will go. I am liking that front bumper also! Great fab work

Thank you sir. No offense to your friend but if he cannot go places that your ZJ can, he needs to get some practice. Unless he is running around with street tires, broken shocks, and probably an anchor thrown out of the back he has no reason to not go everywhere you can. ;)

What's wrong with the anchor? I gotta do something to help the Jeeps keep up with me!

My anchor = 2002 Chevy 2500 HD. I'll expand on that story in my thread.

Nice! I have a very cool group of jeep guys I ride with and they always talk ********** up until we hit the reds. Then it's more like"wow how the?". Though I will say that a Rubi even in stock form is one nasty off roading machine. If only they had more space in them. I considered getting one myself. Pre 2012 model of course as I don't like all the fluff the new ones have as well as being more car like than their predecessors.

I'll try to get by the shop by the end of next weekend to take apart that xcase and see what happened.

Lol. He has BFG All Terrains on his. The only stuff he has not been able to do was the super rocky stuff where you are flexing like crazy. He dosen't have enough ground clearence....yet :sombrero:

Oh, and he isn't the most "gifted" driver out there. That plays a role in it too....actually that plays the whole role haha

Yeah, I've seen corvettes lose to cavaliers at the drag strip for this very reason. Nothing like the driver to bring out the full potential (or downfalls) to a purpose built vehicle.

Few pictures of this memorial weekend. Notice the use of the rock sliders. That rock normally wouldn't have slowed me down, but the truck was in 2wd.
