SG Springs

Keith, what is your thought on the difference b/t the SG VS the RTE ride characteristics?

I've got 3" RTE's in my fat pig of a Disco I also run very soft shocks up front and a three link so it sways enough to make you seasick on a twisty road.. I like it that way and it performs beautifully in the rock which is what I want it to do.
That doesn't make me to good of a judge when it comes to a stable on road ride. That said I've ridden in Graham's truck enough to know that for what it is and how top heavy it is it's a very stable platform. Considering the lift and the weight I'm impressed with the springs enough to follow up and try to have some made.
My take on suspension is uncompromising, which is kind of a catch 22 if you will, as in most all cases a suspension is a compromise, but if the suspension is designed with a purpose in mind it must perform that purpose. For what my needs will be for an overlanding truck I think that these front springs are a great uncompromising compromise(?) At least enough so that adustments in shock valving could be made to adjust for a difference in on/off road performance preferences..

WOW! Did any of that make sense?

How has the sway been on your 110 w/ the SG springs?

Sway is certainly there, but not unmanageable. Once you get used to it it isn't bad. I'm not running sway bars. Keep in mind that my 110 weighs 7000 #s, so if you put the same springs in a 90 the ride will be much firmer. That is unless Keith is making 90 and 110 versions. . .

cheers

After much research I can find no reference to SG ever making two types of springs for the Stage 2 or Stage 3 kit that included the "dead coils" soat this point I'm operating under the assumption that they where all the same..

If someone knows any different please let me know!

Actually made some sense since it appears we are running very similar suspensions. Besides the 3" RTEs I also have a SG three-link up front along with the adjustable FOX's which are pretty lightly valved. I also love the way mine works in the rocks, but am willing to sacrifice some of the sway for a tighter ride on fire roads and highways. I may also look into adjusting the valving in the shocks as it may help.

There must be a lot of difference b/t the SG and the RTE springs. If I did not have the Currie Anti-Rock on the rear of mine it would be almost unmanageable on the road.

I have never heard or seen a different spring for the 90 VS 110. I thought that even the Discos were using the same SG spring, but I have been known to be wrong the majority of the time:)

Seems to be across the board most spring manufacturers/resellers seem to pile the LR front springs in a single heap for the RRC/Def (110/90) and Disco and call them the same..

Anti Rock? In the back? Wow cool! I've known a few '90' guys to do that.. I should have one in the front! My Dizko seems alright but the rear shocks are valved quite stiff like 100/400 as compared to the 75/185 I have in the front.. All on RTE 3" RR4's and RR1's.. Good springs really but I've been dying to try the SG springs to see what difference there is..

Keep in mind I'm only using SGs on the front. Rear I have the heaviest springs that OME makes. Could only go heavier if I did the Camel Trophy thing and put the hi-cap secondary springs in. Then I'd loose a bunch of articulation. My sway on the road is mostly eaten up by the rear springs since all the high weight is toward the rear.

I have never found reference to 2 different SG springs either. But also since they are progressive, they will be somewhat more adjustable to vehicle weight. Will just change your lift. . .

OME on the other hand specifically charts springs for front rear and by vehicle.

Just an update for those of you interested..

I have aquired the "sample springs" so we won't have to tear Grahams truck apart!

Interesting comment from Graham on SG's only upfront. Given that Graham's setup makes him smile after a bujillion miles across africa, i'll probably just emulate his suspension setup (sans the 3-link), which means I would be interested in 2.

I've got no 3-link. I have the X-member but not the rest. Greg wanted me to use it, but I declined. Didn't want that on the front of such a heavy vehicle so far from spare parts. . .And my front end articulates pretty darned well.

Keith,
Any update on this? I'd like to get these sooner than I originally stated. They can go on my Xmas list if you are ready in time. Regardless, I want a set the moment they are validated and ready to order.

Springs are done! Go get them! Not having the resources to take on the project myself I called on Steve at Rovertyme to get 'er done. Those of you familiar with Steves work know that it is top notch (I still like my steering and suspension stuff better :) )
There are nine or ten sets of the first batch left (mine are on the way!)

So call Steve at 1-866-768-3786
