SG Springs

Graham/Keith,
I spoke to Steve briefly yesterday at Rovertyme, and he said they were very similiar to his discontinued 3" coils. Is that what you guys are getting in lift from those front springs? I'm not sure I want to go 3", as I don't want to push my CG too far, or have to address driveline angle issues with more mods. 2-2.5" is max I would be interested in. Not sure if all my front weight would bring me down from 3" though. Graham is probably the best demo for my application. Struggling now with these SG springs or OME 766/755 combo. Price is fantastic though, eliminating any price differential between the decisions.

I get about 2.5 lift out of mine. But my truck is heavy. Fully loaded I'm, 6900 lbs. Of course on the front it's mostly the weight of the diesel that counts, and you've got that too.

Are you planning on running sway bars? I don't run sways, and so far have had no CG issues, though my truck obviously has a lot of weight up top.

cheers

Too cool, glad this project has come to fruition! Just to make sure, these springs are exact replicas of the SG springs? Are the fronts and rears both progressive? Do they have dead or stacked coils when sitting?

We actually sent one of Graham's springs to Steve and he duplicated it to nearly a T..
Only the fronts at this point. 110's use a bigger rear spring than a 90. I am certain that Steve can fix you up with an RR1 or an RR3 for the rear that will suit your needs. On my Disco I'm running 3" RR1's in the rear and have been very happy!
I am currently running OME 751's on the front of my truck, without a bumper (a Rockware with winch will in place soon) the resulting lift was about 1.5 over stock when the ARB bumper was on with the winch.

I am running OME 755's on the rear, a medium duty spring that adds about 3" unloaded lift to the truck, when I put five of those big BFG MTKM2's with Wolf wheels in the back it settled down about 1/2", that's a 280 pound spring. I suspect it may end up being a little light when the truck is fully loaded but that's what the BOGEself leveling unit is for right? Well probably not enough travel but I might do something tricky with the mounts.

I don't have sways on my truck either.

I have sways now. After springs/shock upgrades, I'll experiment with removal and see how it rides. most say to lose them, but each application is different. I'll drop them if there's no difference though.

Graham, you are running 755's in the back, right?

I do believe Graham is running 754's the REALLY heavy duty OME's.

If your truck has a front sway it will interfere with the driveshaft if the front droops just a little bit, mine only came with a rear. It handled very well with just a rear and the very soft county springs (you could have sworn the truck was set up as a low rider!) When I put the taller springs on I left the rear sway on for a bit then I removed it. Loaded or unloaded it did not seem to make a difference. If I ever do any sways on any of my Rovers it would probably be a front mount that stays out of the way of the driveshaft and can be easily disconnected.

I called and chatted with Steve this morning. Sounds like they are installing the first set this weekend. I'm going to call him on Monday and see what his observations are on the ride characteristics.

Yes, Graham is runnning the heavy-duty constant load 110 springs in the back. Those things are massive, but they get the job done for his truck.

Thanks. I was supposed to call steve back, but I just broke a CV in Knoxville, TN on a cross country trip to fort knox for a military school. Stuck at LR Knoxville, trying to find replacement parts.

Keith,
I left you a VM, to see if you have any options for me. I'm in a time sensitive situation.

As everyone said, I'm running 754's in the rear. The SG springs do have 'dead' coils at rest. They have a lot of droop though, and with 10' travel shocks they work very well.

I realized I wasn't clear in my post above. Unloaded with the SG springs I am close to 3" of lift in the front. With the truck loaded for a week out I'm running about 2" lift all round.

cheers

Nice talking with you tonight Arthur!! When I first mailed you I was finishing up your axles in the shop at a "balmy" - (that's minus!!!!!) 16 degrees C.

Hoping for better weather tomorrow!!! Did you see that "road service 130 for sale at the Pickles Auction? http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/51074-who-looking-300tdi-130-a.html

There's your truck!!! Well it's not an Isuzu but you'd be amazed at that little 300TDI

I got my springs!! They're pretty!! I figure to put them on this weekend if I can, that and My new Bumper from Matt, well and then there's all that work I need to finish for Pendy and a couple other products that need to go out... Rear shock mounts, front shock mounts, springs... All this and only two days about 40 degrees!!!!!
