Shortening the wheel base on an E450 cutaway chassis

Hi,

Is it possible to shorten the wheelbase on a E450 cutway chassis cab ?

See plenty of ex-ambo's with the 158" WB but would prefer the shorter 138" as per Chris's V4.

I guess a cut & shut of the frame isn't possible ?

I thought they were heat treated so welding was a no-no on them. If not then a diagional splice & fishplates is an easy job :~)

How about " big truck" style, just move the spring hangers up and cut off the excess rails. No welding. No plating. All you need is a mag drill.

Can't, the chassis kicks up & over the rear axle. Prob too much work & cost in parts over just waiting for the right vehicle to show up.

Why not? The Minnie Winnie I salvaged had the frame cut and EXTENDED using fish plates and overplating - shortening should relatively no problem
