Sold the Wildernest, and very happy to have a SnugTop back on...currently de-modding, (then re-modding, gathering long travel prerunner suspension) going to perhaps rip off the ARB, and go with a lighter prerunner bumper, but the ARB makes a great mount for my GoPro....

Probably going to ditch the Old Man Emu Dakar rear springs/Bilstein 5100's too....I do not care for them, ride is pretty rough, and they suck goat nads on washboard roads, won't let me drive as fast as I want without skipping around, that is no bueno!...going to with a custom set of Deavers or Alcans, and Fox emulsion shocks...

Hi All,

We are currently driving from Seattle to Argentina in a 1997 Toyota 4runner. We have jsut done over 11400 miles in 7 months and have another 12 months or so to go!

Modifications we have done are:
Bilsteins all around.
Installed a Dual Battery system
Removed one rear passenger seat and replaced it with a EdgeStar fridge
Installed a 800w inverter
Re built the rear storage area with a shelf to store more gear, Installed a custom built lock box.

We have a full writeup about Blue in our vehicle information on our website LifeRemotely.com, Feed back and comments are welcome!

My not so hard core '04 2wd Tacoma. Mods include a 2" aal lift in the rear, 1.5" spacer lift, new shocks, hw tube bumpers/ tailgate, Hella spotlights and 15x7 Soft 8 rims with 235/75/R15 Goodyear Wranglers. I plan to add a Detroit Trutrac LSD for improved traction. The truck is paid for and so far has served me well in the oilfield.

Hmm. It must be something with the Dakar springs in back. I have OME coils with 5100s in front with AALs and a "1.5 block in back and the washboards are smooth. You are more than welcome to send the Dakars and ARB bumper this way if you don't want them. ; )

Not sure if this is the best to place to post this, but I was thinking that a Fleetwest Durashell 165 would make a great camper with windows and a top vent. It weighs 350 lbs and is fairly aerodynamic. With the overhang and height, it would be pretty comfortable. Does anyone know if there are any of these type of utility bodies being used this way?

I like the lightness of it but it is a little too tall for me. I do think it would be a great platform for someone's build though.

.

I have Camburg coil overs up front...they are great....the back seems miss-matched...

I have broken three sets of springs...the stockers, the repaired stockers...and a set of 5 leaf Deavers...loved how the Deavers rode, but they broke...so I think I over compensated with the Dakar Heavies....they are great for hauling loads...but never liked how they rode from the get go. And since the truck has lost 350 lbs. by the ditching the Wildernest...man it really blows now. I haul 25 gallons of water at the tailgate are to keep it somewhat tolerable.

I probably won't go full long travel in the front...just add an emulsion with a reservoir shock and revalve the Camburg coilover.

A few of the FJ in various locations... it's been a wonderful vehicle, and still is.

Available starting in mid-July to a new owner... I'll get use out of it in E. Africa in the meantime, so I'm not in a rush to find it a new home.

However, I'd love to sell to a fellow Expo'er or someone else who will give her more adventures.

Happy to deliver it anywhere between Kampala and Juba (north-south) and between Lake Albert and Gulu (east-west). :)

Currently on Ugandan URA license plates (UAQ) with taxes fully paid through next year.

I guess I can see you haviing problems. I don't get carried away with my truck. It is mostly just trailriding and hauling a bunch of camping gear and an RTT over the bed. I wouldn't mind trying the OME Dakars in the future.

Yeah, I am just not overly impressed with them. The rear is real skitterish...even at slower speeds like 25-30 mph. Now my buddy's long travel Taco...it stays planted, and soaks most everything up, and actually quite a joy to drive off-road. Where I find mine annoying.

Annoying was my first setup running "32 Kumho MTs, coilspacers and my first AALs. Horrible setup but it worked at the time.
