Hope everyone's mods are coming along. Once again I hit a snag. When replacing valve guide seals a cam bolt broke in the head, and the head ended up having to coming off, and that always means big trouble when a head has to come off. And once back together it ran beautifully, no more smoke.....but overheats at slow speeds, fine on highway. Tried everything, clearly as usual something went wrong. Maybe gasket blocking a coolant port? Anyhow, its a good shop so they are pulling it apart under warranty today. My other biggy is it will never pass smog, the idiotic computer never shows finished running tests no matter how long I drive it. State said tough luck, and suggested I take it to a dealer to have checked out and maybe get some sort of waiver from them.....fun fun. If not I may just have to leave it un-registered and pay tickets until we move out of the idiotic smog county in about a year. State claims its only a problem with Montero Sports of that Era, not Monteros. And still I have skid plates, CB and other to do.....Hard to get stuff done when you are always in the shop for major engine stuff!
My points are dont wait until the 11th hour for things, and dial those cooling systems in 120%. Not being the problem really, but I even swapped the fan clutch, heat taped a fan shroud gap, and ordered the missing bottom valiance on the shroud to make sure once sorted out I have max cooling for the Sierras.
