What I love about the SPOT concept is this simple-n-fast method to just send a quick "Everything's fine" message and coordinates. It's a one way communication method (if I read correctly), so it doesn't intrude the way an incoming phone call or text message does. But I'm kind of protective of my campfire time as sacred.1leglance said:. . .this weekend I covered over 550 miles with only the most vague plan and much of it near the az-mex border...she could just watch the track and get the ok messages (sent w/ each meal just to make a good habit)...
Interesting that your SPOT works inside your bike's storage compartment and under your buddy's bumper. Mt SPOT (along with all my other GPS/SAT devices) only seems to work with a clear view of the sky.LandCruiserPhil said:The other use I have found is it works as a low budget low jack. I have a little lockable compartment on my moto and I turn it on when I leave and forget about it until I return.
Another use, a friend of mind has found is to velcro his SPOT to the underneath of his kids Scion's bumper and know where he has been and the time. It gives dad peace of mind knowing his kids did and was where he/she claimed.

Anybody else getting a good signal when the SPOT is "hidden"?
Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Compatible with Ram mounts, etc. Haven't seen one myself though.

Bergger said:Well I think I'll pick one up soon. Tigergps.com has them for $129!

Maybe the real trick is to push the buttons repeatedly until it bursts into flames so you can send smoke signals.
