2) #1 brings up another point - the contents, especially the unopened cooking stuff, might also be stolen goods. I advise caution, and/or a good photo inventory be taken of the contents before disposal.
3) If the contents can generate any cash, I think the first ones to be compensated should be AT. Any leftover $ can be donated, but I think their out-of-pocket for phone calls, possible transport home, and potential rentals that went unfulfilled deserves to be paid back first. Otherwise they're still out $$ that wasn't in the business plan.
3a) Was there a part of the special hitch assembly left in the tow vehicle that's now gone missing?
