a fully aired up tire is more likely to cut asidewall because the air pressure prevents the side wall from flexing away from what it is coming in contact with.

Also a correctly aired down tire allows you to take lines that allow you to protect your tires as fully aired up tires tend to loose traction and slid against the obstacles you are trying to avoid to protect your tires.

That's my understanding as well.

I have to say you are mistaken in how you think tires function.

The advice on the air tank was sound and you look silly trying to argue against it.

For the same $50 you can get a cheap cigarette lighter plug in compresor and have more then 6 tires covered.

no i understand exactly what ur saying about the tires. i agree with it. what i have been trying to get across is that 29psi is about as good as i could get with my 18" wheels and even that was not the correct pressure. traction was not an issue, the sidewall compressed too much. my point with my tire failure was not airing down all together its that i did not find the "sweet spot" pressure for my tires.

lol i have a cheap cigarette lighter compressor, its a piece of **** and does nothing. the little CO2 tank will work fine until i will buy a nice compressor. even that (as previously posted) i only need to air down a few times a year, so even if i aired down 5 times thats another $50, i'm still gonna have more money saved than that i could have spent on a ARB compressor. i doubt i will keep this tank that long to begin with. as a back up plan or as a transition equipment it is perfect. as a permanent solution? it is not, and you are right.

Get the MV-50 air compressor. Good little piece of kit, there are only a few of us here that have gone through more than 1.

I am on number 2, purely because I lent it out to some bonehead who retapped the fitting(i gave him permission to), but he did it wrong and screwed up the butterfly valve

Is that the same unit that comes in the larger Slime kit? I have one of those in my truck that I've carried around for a while now. It's slow as snot, but doesn't seem to mind the heat and gets the job done.

Open up the top of your compressor and make sure everything looks good. The valve on mine was toast and thats why i wasnt seeing the psi or CFM that i should have.

wheelin' on 18's

michael, i'm on 18s. if i air down much more than that i will blow a bead. North Peak at hidden falls almost killed my driverside front tire. the LR3 with us only aired down to that too and 40psi is street pressure lol if ur driving on 29 ur killing ur gas mileage. if i had 16" rims this would be a much different situation. 18s throw things completely out of whack

u'll never see me air down for tuskegee even if i spent the whole weekend there....which i regularly do. its a little bit of a rougher ride, but so be it. amicalola is obviously a place i will air down... then again with the way tuskegee has been in the past 6 months i just might have to hahaha

yes lee, it is cheaper in the long run to go with an air compressor, thats the plan. but 5 -10 fill ups will still be in the "it was worth it" range on this little tank. and i can still sell the tank with valve for more than i paid for it.

I have 18's on my LR3. I always air down to 18psi and wheel it pretty consistently. I've had the tires compressed to where you barely see tire on the edge of the rim, no big deal. :victory: And off-roading at that pressure hasn't DRAMATICALLY impacted my fuel economy..what are the trails, like 20miles maybe?

The only issue I've ever had with air pressure was too much pressure driving down a bumpy/rocky road at 45psi (my street pressure) and blew a tire on rock impact (it wasn't supposed to be an off-road day).

I have a 15lb powertank ($6 fills at Matheson tri-gas in Phx) for when I'm in a rush but I also carry the 'slime' compressor I bought at WalMart...it was $59 and isn't that bad. It's cheap insurance.

lol i was staying there to begin with. it just sealed the deal for 4 more days haha. but basically it turned out great with regards to timing of tires going bad. i was on the wearbars and i got a flat in my old tires just at the perfect time to order new ones.

um, i moved out. 3 apartment complexes down the street. there were some issues in my place and i had to ditch that place before i got wrapped into stuff i wanted nothing to do with. call me if u want more info.
