Dude! you are fast! Pretty amazing how crappy that stock breather is huh? After all the rear axles Nissan has replaced under warranty and that thing is still there! Sometimes you just have to shake your head at manufacturers.

I bought my '05 used and was the 3rd owner. Original axle because I called Dana & Nissan to confirm the serial #'s. Mine didn't even have the vent on the axle, it had a plastic plug that Dana put in for shipping to Nissan. Nissan was supposed to put the vent on during vehicle assembly but quite a few were shipped out with no vents. Nissan issued a TSB regarding the issue. Mine has a slight pinion seal leak but the left and right axle seals are good.

the spring in the stock breather cap is weaker than a ball point pen's spring. the metal cover is about as tough as a piece of tin-foil. a sad excuse for such as important little part.

Well just added 2000 miles in less than 7 days. Auburn, AL to Naples, FL and back for some family affairs.... But to make the most of it, I made a quick drive through Jane's Scenic Drive through the Fakahatchee and Picayune strands. Camera died about 5 minutes in to the 2 hour drive, but it was a decent trip for wildlife: 3 water mocassins, 1 florida box turtle, some alligators, a barred owl, deer, etc, etc. truck got splashed with the some nice lime-stone white mud.

After that little evening trip, it was back to business. Ended up hauling a 5x8 u-haul trailer 600 miles back to auburn completely filled with furniture.

Truck performed great for its first time towing and gas mileage was still better than my land rover was normally on the highway.

I also picked up a rolling, lockable husky tool box from home depot just to temporarily sit in the bed until I get a camper shell, soft-topper, or rolling tonneau cover to keep things dry. secured it using a ratchet strap and the utili-track setup. cheap, easy, and removable until I get a permanent solution.

Friend also gave me an older 2 piece utili-track cleat and a nissan factory ball hitch since he sold his frontier.

Do you need a couple more cleats? I think I might have two extra ones in the garage I'd be willing to part with. Just let me know!

That breather valve mod is worth its weight in gold! I did it to my 06 Frontier, but only after I blow the axle seal out (~$300 repair bill by the way) due to a clogged breather valve. Which didn't allow the trapped gases in the differential to escape.

update: already put nearly 9000 miles on the truck.

Had some fun in Talladega NF today. Truck got a work out for sure, also got a few small bumps and bruises.

Such cool photos. I sure miss reptiles living up here. I'm glad the truck is doing well for you, I might have to pick one up in 5 years or so.

stolenheron, I recommend relocating your electrical plugin to the bumper. I just used a 2 inch hole saw on the bumper and a dremel to modify the connecter. My first trip out with my P4X I mangled that thing all up. :smiley_drive:

it is on my to do list. as soon as I installed the factory hitch, i knew that it was a terrible location from the start.

Odometer rolled over to 10,000 miles already on my 2013.... (actually already at 10,2XX miles)

also have been hitting various roads in Talladega National Forest every other day. haven't really taken many pics lately (this was taken by a friend behind me in his 2013 tacoma), but the forest roads are green as can be right now and the wet weather has caused alot of trees to fall.

Found some new (to me) roads in the northern portion of Talladega NF/Calhoun county yesterday to explore. Found a few unblocked and well traveled logging roads. One road was through a clear cut, but had 2 big pines blocking about a mile into it (Which sucked, it was a very neat drive). The other road was in what looked to be a 10-20 year old growth pine forest, which was in need of a control burn (undergrowth started swallowing up the road so I turned around, with about a 40 point K turn).

Truck got an oil change, and tire rotation today... the more I drive it, the more I figure out what I "need". A 2-3" lift, some larger A/T tires, extra lighting (front), sliders, skids, bumpers, winch, camper shell or soft topper..... lol
