Nikson, what Bill said pretty much nails it.

The weight added is around 380 pounds +/- based on the linear footage of various sizes of tubing used. I just want to have fun on the trails with my family, and ease my mind about how shoddily the cherokee is built when it comes to low speed roll overs....which are inevitable if you wheel long enough. The external portion is more about body damage control more than anything. There are lots of big tight trees here in the South, and rubbing against one doesnt bode well for the thin sheet metal. Im not fooling myself into believing the body would survive unharmed in a roll over, but my family should, hence the internal tie-ins. Jeeps are replaceable. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the mad max look...just a little. :)

Hey, its all good... Everyone builds their truck to their "need" and how they see it... :)

It does look good, thats for sure... :)

Just a quick update,

Just installed a net for my rear cargo section, I was hoping a tailgate net for pick-up trucks would work...so I just bought one from Oreillys for 22 bucks.

Works great! This is mostly to keep the dogs out of my daughters face when they are in the rear. They can get a little overwhelming, especially since my kids face is usually coated in a food of some sort.

same thing i did, i ran a piece of flat stock down one side of it (slides right in) so i can unhook it and roll it up to one side and velcro it. that way its not always there if i fold the seat down.

Yeah, its decently easy to remove on mine, but with my cage in the rear, not a huge reason to put the seat down anymore. I will say it takes a little getting used to...blocks a lot of the view out of the rear.

Mine too, this net just kinda finished off anything I had left... Thats what backup cameras are for.

And here is the additional upper hinge I added to the exo cage. I forgot to add these pics to this build thread... so here they are! I made a delrin bushing in the lathe, and the rest is pretty much self explanatory...

Decided I wanted a cowl induction hood, but didnt want to shell out $400-$500 for a complete hood. Once again, I am unemployed for a little while, and my project list in nearing its end, so I decided to just do it - if for no other reason than to have something to do.

The beauty of doing this the way I did is that there is no need for any body work since I just added another coat of herculiner over everything and it does a fine job of hiding imperfections.

I was surprised at how quick this went, I have about 4.5 hours in it, including the hood removal.

I only cut through the outer skin of the hood, so all of the 'framework' under the hood is still intact. The vents (from a Z34 I think?) are a few years old and fit nicely between the spars without having to cut them. I didnt go the full length to the rear of the hood due to my cross bar on my exo cage, as will be more obvious once I get it remounted and post a picture tonight.

Im happy with it, and think it turned out pretty well.

Picture story below....

I've never really understood cowl induction hoods, what do they do? Is it mainly to vent away heat or something?
