Sway bars or not?

2000 DII - OME 3" lift ; 235/85/16 tires; SD rack; soon to be front brush bar - maybe a winch, maybe not. (I'm dateing one now & one is plenty for my budget...)

The ? is should I remove my sway bars? I am thinking about better wheel travel and reduced weight. I drive this like its a top heavy SUV anyway - I have a little car for sporting around.

Has anyone done this - or driven around with their swaybar disconnected? I get to put front pads on tomorrow and could go ahead and drop it. What do you folks think?

I would definitely remove the rear swaybar - especially with the OME setup (swaybars are optional in the European versions, at least on the Disco I).

The front varies. On my 96 Disco, the front became a little "wandery" with it off (on my Suzuki no difference, except improvement on and off road).

If you have ACE on the Disco, that may change whether they can be removed or not.

I recently went with quick disconnects and I would recommend doing the same. I did not want to take the front bar all the way off due to safety on the highway, it's in the design for a reason... The disconnects give you the best of both worlds and I have noticed a significant difference offroad.

You can buy them new for $150, or, I found mine used for $100 which is a common price.

Sway bars are for the grounded! It depends on how you drive. I would either take them off or go for disconnects. My 110 never had them (though the mounts are there) and I've never missed them.

(Well, except for that one time following Brady and cornering hard. . .just couldn't catch that pesky little Taco. . . )

cheers
