Received my kukenam ruggedized tent last week, mounted it yesterday. No damage on delivery, some metal shavings in the tent, green mattress cover...was expecting grey or blue , overtightened the bolts that mount the aluminum crossbars which resulted in not being able to slide in the brackets connecting the tent to the bed rack........

I've owned eeziawn tents for many years and was going to buy a howling moon which to me is the best RTT out there. For the price point of the tepui the quality is not that far off compared to the south african products. Very happy with my purchase.

Tent looks good and fits great on your Tacoma. All of the mattress covers are green by the way. Sorry for the surprise. Thanks for choosing Tepui!

Took the kukenam sky camping in the Huachuca Mountains over the weekend, just north of the US/Mexico border in southern AZ. I've used this thing all over upstate NY, Vermont, North Carolina, and Arizona, but last night was the first time it's seen rain. And boy, did it rain. I'm happy to report that myself and my wife stayed completely dry and warm despite the torrential mountain storm. The only incident to report with the tent is that the buckle for the long ladder retention strap broke. This was mostly (all) my fault, as I believe I put undo stress on it while using it to support myself when packing the rent up. Anyways, here's a picture:

Give Griffin a call at the shop. He will handle all the warranty issues. Should be able to get you a replacement.

Adam, how are the tent bases constructed? I tried looking inside the bolt holes of my Autana Ruggedized as I was installing the rails, but couldn't see much. Just curious if there's an internal framework, foam core, or something else.

I know there is an internal frame, and as I recall there is some insulation in there. But Adam would know better than I would.

The tent bases are an aluminum frame with a number of aluminum crossmembers. Foam sheet insulation between the crossmembers and it's all sandwiched between the two aluminum cap sheets (or the aluminum diamond plate base plate on the Ruggedized).

Nope. I store mine on it's side as well. I have a little furniture dolly that I put it on so I can roll it around the garage if I need to move it. Makes it much easier to move that way.......until I finally build an overhead winch setup to store it at the ceiling.

For my kids recent spring break, we took a roadtrip up the CA coast, from San Diego to Crescent City, stopping to camp in Big Sur and Jed Smith state park in the Redwoods. Since I've been strongly considering a RTT, and we were passing through Santa Cruz, we decided to rent a Gran Sabana for our 3 night in Jed Smith. It was great and the kids LOVED the tent. Setting up and taking it down has a bit of a learning curve - took us 40 minutes to set up (with the Annex) the first time, then a bit under 20 the second time. With a bit of practice, I'm sure I'd be under 10 minutes - it takes a bit more work because I had it mounted on a van, almost 8 feet high. The tent is definitely a quality product, with great feel to the materials and sturdy construction. It was also really comfortable, even for 4 of us. The thicker material helped keep some of the heat in (with the windows closed), which was nice because it was down in the mid 30s at night.

Wow you don't see the family van/bus used much anymore. Glad to see some families still are using the big E. I have many fond trip memories in our E250.

We did 210 mile round trip with a 22mpg average. Few years back we did Avenue of the Giants same set up and saw 25mpg primarily due to the slower 101 speeds and not as much mountain goat strait up the mountain hauling.

Flat spot to start with our set up is about 15 minutes. Not so flat and its considerably longer to get the beds flat so we don't end up on the floor.

Thanks everyone that came by the Tepui booth at the Cruise Moab vendor show on Thursday. Cruise Moab was a great event once again and it was great to meet a lot of you who I've only had contact with on the forums. Congrats to the lucky winners of the Tepui Gear bags at the raffle as well. Hope you all enjoy your new bags.

Quick update. It has been a VERY busy month or so for Tepui and we've sold a LOT of tents and we're currently very low on inventory and sold out of many of the models. We have a new shipment coming soon. Thanks for your patience but we should have new inventory on all items by the end of the month. I'll make an announcement here as soon as the shipments show up and we'll be ready to start filling new orders.
