There is no question that Oshkosh developed the L-ATV, in part, to meet the requirements of the U.S. Military's JLTV program. So what is the JLTV?
In a nutshell, JLTV is a program to replace the HUMVEE, with a larger vehicle that has much better crew-protection armor, better off-road capability, and better payload and troop-carrying capacity. The following PDFs explain the JLTV procurement program more generally -- see http://www.dote.osd.mil/pub/reports/FY2013/pdf/army/2013jltv.pdf , http://www.defenseinnovationmarketplace.mil/resources/18_2013ATIP_JLTV.pdf , http://www.ausa.org/publications/armymagazine/archive/2012/11/Documents/SoldierArmed_1112.pdf , http://www.dau.mil/publications/DefenseATL/DATLFiles/Jan-Feb2014/Mills.pdf , https://www.hsdl.org/?view&did=731140 , and http://www.gao.gov/assets/320/312013.pdf :
Here are some JLTV YouTube Playlists, with varying foci of interest, i.e. they will focus on Oshkosh, Lockheed-Martin, AM General, BAE Systems, General Dynamics, etc. – see https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2I2qobfPfuwub4Z3j1PYQOk2IHmGgz11 , https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-yyseGrzWUEk-CBIfAkAQ7hxSAL-Jgwe , https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-yyseGrzWUG_j1LAPhTOR2MXjS0KpfGZ , https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-yyseGrzWUHU219H7185kAL9d9-wiaIi , https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqeiUMX8_6vc0tPG9pgw6-VIcm3hCNPkx , and https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-yyseGrzWUE9jM4hkxUuX6b-TNTb7z6J .
All of these companies have been major contenders at various stages of the JLTV procurement process -- see http://lms.aau.ac.id/library/ebook/MJ_3968_12_H/files/res/downloads/download_0006.pdf . But currently, the field has narrowed down to just three: Oshkosh, Lockheed-Martin, and AM General.
The following are a few videos about Oshkosh's particular product offering for the JLTV program, namely, the L-ATV:
