Texas to Alaska to Texas. 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid driving on the Dalton Highway and the Dempster Highway. July/August 2023.

Pikes Peak was really fun to drive today. It still gave me goose bumps driving on it, and it was nice to drive all the way to the top.

Thank you for the pictures from Douala! (anything to do with food gets me excited)

I'm exploring and working in the Yukon right now, just ran into the Dodge Caravan van I met earlier last month. It has over 400,000 miles, strictly driving back and forth on the dempster. They only carry ones spare. Repair kit is a great plan, be sure to include a pump also.

This season like others, have met many Travelers over the last couple months, many do not carry spares, or self repair ability. They admit to relying on the kindness of passerby's or other travelers. Remember that the routes you m will be traveling, are regularly traveled by others. In the North I'd like to think others, seeing someone in need, are more likely to stop and help than any other area you may travel.
Thanks for this info and nice to know you liked the pictures of the food in Douala.

This is my trunk. I have my spare tire and a pump. I also have first aid kit and the tire repair kit I bought.

You are right aboit most travelers nit being fully prepared for such a trip and relying on the kindness of others. I know I will personally stop to help anybody I see stranded. I am even willing to give away my tire repair kit or any tool I can give away to a stranded person especially on the Dalton Highway or the Dempster Highway. I am truly looking forward to driving on both of those roads and I am hoping for the best.

Yesterday, a YouTuber overtook me as we were crossing the state line into New Mexico. Later that day in Denver during rush hour, as I was driving to my hotel, I saw him on the side of the road apparently in a fender bender. 2 cop cars and 3 other cars all parked on the shoulder of the freeway and talking with the cops. This is a picture of his car that I took when he overtook me. I think it is Ark Offroad on YouTube. This is the car on the channel.
Also, it is very interesting to me that I have met 3 different cop cars on the freeway here in Colorado who glanced at my car a couple of times and found a way to change lanes to get behind me to run my license plate. Then they overtake me and go on their way.

That guy in the truck is crazy. I have slept in the bed of my truck before but I had the tail gate up. It just seems weird to me that he left it down.

Pikes Peak has changed since I was last there, which was around 1998. I don't recall there being a platform for the cog train.

I'm going to put my money on that guy was sleeping off what he shouldn't be driving with.

Hopefully it is due to a BOLO on another same-model/same-color car. ... At least you weren't pulled over for each check. ... Keep enjoying your trip! :)

You know, I wonder if the officers were checking you out due to the numbers on the side of your car. Maybe they were thinking you were part of a rally or road race going cross country.

I had a great day today visiting Glacier National Park. Since I did not have a reservation for the park, I had to leave my hotel at 4:30am to get into the park at 5:30am before the park staff show up at 6am to start asking people for their park reservations.

The weather was great and the sun rose pretty early. People were notceably very nice also.

The highlight of my day was a very pleasant couple that I met who took the time to have a long conversation with me. I told them I was driving to Alaska and blogging about my trip. They were very intrigued that they asked me for my blog so they could read it. The wife gave me her number, and I sent the link to her. The kind husband all lf a sudden went into the store and bought me a huge ice cream from the grocery store that we were stabding infront and talking. This is at the East entrance to the park. The couple was very friendly and kind to me. They told me that if I happen to be passing back through their town, feel free to let them know and say hi.

Steve and Lynn, it was nice meeting you guys. Feel free to stop by this blog any time to see pictures of my trip when I get to Alaska.

I also met Jay. One of the drivers of the red bus who lives in Maine but came to Glacier for a summer job to drive the red bus. He told me it was one of the things on his bucket list. I also told him one of the things on my bucket list has always been to take a road trip from Texas to Alaska and back. He was very interested in hearing more about it.

Overall, today was a great day. I met some other very friendly people at many pull outs in the park.

Here are some of my pictures from today.

Great pics! I just got back from Glacier NP a few weeks ago. Truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! I missed-out on the big horn sheep, but I did see a bear while there. Also, all the dead trees on the east side of the park was surreal! I think a major fire went thru there a few years ago? Safe travels!

I left my hotel at 6 am this morning and got to the border at 6:50 am. I saw this sign that says the border opens at 8 am. I almost made a u-turn when I saw border patrol agents on both sides of the border-crossing moving their vehicles and opening the gate. At 7am, the RV ahead of me crossed first. As I started moving, I asked an American border patrol agent why the sign says they open at 8 am when they actually open at 7am. He told me that it is the highway who put that sign, and the highway guys have just never come back to change it.

My crossing was smooth, though the Canadian border patrol agent asked me very many questions. Do you have any kind of weapons with you? Do you have any cannabis products? Any alcohol or tobacco products? Are you carrying cash more than $10,000? What do you do for a living? Are you traveling alone? When do you resume work? I answered it all, and I was on my way.

Gas prices have been very high up north compared to Texas. But driving my Accord hybrid and maintaining the speed limit, especially here in Canada yields good results. Since I left my hotel this morning, I have been driving on the highway for over 2 hours now and getting 50 mpg. This car is a great gas saver. It is a good compromise to the high cost of gas in Canada and Alaska.

I just passed this random 18-wheeler who got stuck trying to make a u-turn.

I think Billiebob writes the questions for the Canadian border guards. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I was very impressed today with the gas saving performance of My 2020 Accord Hybrid.

My drive today was from East Glacier Park in Montana to Fort Saskatchewan in Alberta. A journey of 429 miles, which took me 6 hours 30 minutes to complete. The speed limit was 70 mph. My average speed was 65 mph. My hybrid averaged 51 mpg for the whole trip.

That is a very good number if you ask me. With gas prices being so high, I like seeing such gas saving consumption.
