The Chuckbox

In regards to keeping things from shifting in the chuck box or dry food storage, I have used large freezer ziplocks and blown them up to take up the excess space. And when leftovers from last nights dinner are there, they can be used to store them as well.

Great looking chuck box. I'm trying to figure out how to design my kitchen slide out for the trailer.

Your missing a highly important addon

the matching bar !

I used standard water bottles as alcohol is prohibited here and just decanted what i need into the "water' bottles, they know all the infidels drink, they don't check to far- just the obvious.

It holds the wine, lime juice rum etc, full bottles if required and tall plastic mugs, and it was built to fit into my trailer side box

the other side has the full food storage.

Plywood chuck box's are pretty easy to make- I'll put my hand up though and say mine does not shine like yours ! very nice workmanship
i find that enjoy the designing more than the finishing so my home mades end up dullish and with fingerprints !

Where are you going with this truly well equipped trailer? You stay within Qatar?
Should plan to come over to UAE give me a buzz and we roam around here. There are a couple of other guys here who appreciate a nice campout.

BTW you might want to clean your "spice" rack before transiting Saudi. ;)

Thanks Jeremy, that is a good idea with the baggies.
My stuff is packed pretty tight in there now, I do not think any of it is going to move around, not even on washboarded roads.

Will have to figure out how I am going to strap it down too with my ratchet straps.
I will want to use some foam pads under the straps to protect the finish on the box.

Thanks Borrego.

I am still figuring out how to mount a paper towel holder to the side of the chuckbox.
I do not want to drill the $2.99 paper towel holder to the side of the box, although that would work good and have it sit flush.
I think will cheapen its look to have one permanently attached to it.

I have some clear shower curtain clamps I bought for my foldable solar panel to attach it to the horizontal tubing of my Campinglabs awning.

I took two of them this morning and put them on the paper towel holder and over the wood at the bottom of the opening for the boxes carry handle.
They could also be used at the top of the wood next to the stoves windshields, but there is a good chance the towels might ignite :D

It works, but the paper towel holder does not sit flush, it angles back from the top of it and looks funky.
Anyone have an idea on maybe a couple of clamps or something that would do the trick?
The idea is to not have to drill into the box at all.

I think the problem is not mounting the paper towel holder to the box and detracting from it's overall look....

The problem is the $2.99 paper towel holder itself.

Spend a few extra bux and get a nice stainless one. Not only will it enhance the shine of your chuck box, but I think you'll find it will far outperform that plastic piece o'crap one.

Thanks again for the info mudbutt.

Went to Lowe's this morning to look for the hand towel one, and only saw a cheap plastic one.
Fred Meyers which is just across the street where I had bought the cheap paper towel holder at.
I stopped on my way back home, and they had both of the InterDesign holders.
I bought both and came home and canceled my order for the paper towel one I placed yesterday with Amazon.

Amazon $4.06
Fred Meyer $7.99

Amazon $13.30
Fred Meyer $9.99

The hand towel holder was cheaper from Amazon, but since I Was at Fred Meyer to get the paper towel holder, I got it too.
There is a gap in the fit as they are made to fit wood up to 3/4" thick.
I will fix the gap for both holders later by gluing in some rubber strips.
Both holders have rubber lining already on the metal to prevent scratching which is great.

Here are three pictures showing the two new holders which will work out nicely.
I usually keep both a hand towel and a dish drying towel on a clothesline on the awning, having the dish drying towel on the chuckbox and close to the dish drying rack will be better.

I also found out the box is made out of nine ply apple core cabinet grade wood which is great quality, so you can see my apprehension with wanting to drill into it.

You have the best stuff Corey. That chuckbox is a work of art.
Now you have me wanting one of these to hold all my cooking gear instead of my plastic tote from home depot.
hmmm

Go for it, I think in this world of everything being plastic and metal these days (like my previous setup) this adds a touch of class and looks old school.
That's the ticket!!
Thanks again for the tip on the unit(s).
You spice holder thingy is too cute! :chef:
Thanks.
I am still not quite sure how I came about it.
I am thinking it was a gift from a couple that my X wife and I camped with back in the early 80s.
It does have a red and yellow plastic bottle too for catchup and mustard.

Thanks for posting up about your chuck box. Very clean and functional, lots of good ideas in it and I may attempt to incorporate one into the camper (removable kitchen). Your spice rack makes me physically ill though.

Do you know if any stain was used on the wood? If so, do you know the color? ie: Minwax Cherry, or Minwax Golden Oak. Thanks.
