Dual battery kit is in and done...almost. The NL is top-notch!

Now, the PITA for today was the Slee wiring harness. The harness, while it does work for the 91-92, it is not intended for it, and is pain to work with.

Cest la vie.

I would love to see a shot of the dual battery setup.
Certainly. It was late last night, so I wasnt in a picture posting mood. That, and cold, dimly lit garages dont make for the best photos.

There was plenty of supplied cable; I've got a few feet of each left over. The mounting hardware was sufficient, but I made some changes. I used some heavier sheet metal screws to moutn the soenoid, and used #10 machine screws and nuts to mount the fuse holders. The way I have them, I did not want sharp point waiting to gack my hand.

I used some rubber coat clamps to control the cables. I may go back at some point and put wire wrap around them, but I doubt it.

I'm using two Sear Diehard Platinum batteries for the system, similarly, if not the same, size. I went with the marine version for the main simply because of the extra posts it had. I didn't want the side posts available on the regular Platinums, I wanted the top mount. Same price, and I'm happy.

I've yet to run the in-cab monitor, but that will come later today.

For the mounting of the second abttery, this is more difficult for 91-92 80s, but the same idea as 93 and up, just reversed...for the most part.

I live in an area with no testing, so certain compenents were liberated from their mounts, and are now stored in a box. You may or may not notice the sign blank block off plate. The tray and hardware are stock items for an FZJ80, trimmed to fit as needed. All the bolt holes are there, no drilling is needed.

Last notes, the NL kit doesnt come with any heat shrink. I'd buy some just to make the install cleaner. The crimp on lugs for the NL kit are sized for specific uses...50A fuse, 100A fust, and mains....check this before hand. I didnt, and had to drill some connectors out, but they work just fine.

On to the pictures:

And finally, the NL Monitor, and the IPF switch.

Down time for some much needed repairs. The radiator has leaked from the day I bought it, but I've never had the time to get to replacing it...well, I do now!

I'll be replacing the radiator, water pump(PITMFA), fan clutch, t-stat, rad cap, and misc. hoses.

From the looks of it, the hoses are all original, as are most of the other parts...so, that is what is going back in...all from Mr. T.

This reminds me of exactly what I did to my 80 before my first baja trip. You're not alone!

Pesky Heater Hose

Use your new found confidence and replace the pesky heater hose. Although I have not done it, I have seen it done. It was really simple. Once the head is off, man, there it is, plain to see, in all its glory.

Good Luck!
