Several times...four to be exact. Our place is out in the county and doesnt get plowed until everything else is done.

The windrows are 6' tall at the entrance t othe driveway and there is no room to manuever.

Plus it doesn't help that since he is at the beginning of a dead end street, people park down at his end, if they can't, or are afraid to get up the hill to their own places.

I am absolutely amazed by the high level of fit and finish on the ARB and on the Cruiser. I did not have to mickey with any bolt, everything line up and fit like a glove.

Step 1 complete.

I need to get some spacers made for the winch, but that shouldnt take long. That bumper is so cavernous that I can mount the winch later, so I'm not concerned.

So, unlike this picture:

The control box actually has the plug in for the controller on the top. On the 80 series, with an ARB, this makes it impossible to access the plug.

I opened up the control box and saw that it can be remounted per the photo. Spade bit, drill press, and I was cooking. I covered the old hole with some plastic and I was good to go.

Now came another probelm, there was a bad connection somewhere in the controller itself. I checked everything I could, all the way back to the actual switch...problem found.

The switch is malfunctioning sporadically, but I got the line spooled in and out for a test. A call so SE on Monday will solve the controller issue, their customer service is top notch.

I also replaced my lowbeams with some John Deere HIR versions, and the difference is amazing! I cant wait to see how they are once the Slee harness goes in.

The work for the day:

Well, like everything aftermarket, it doesnt fit the way stock items do. This time it was the Slee upgraded wiring harness.

The directions are pretty straightforward, but unlike the claim that you can simply "flip the harness side to side" it doesnt work that way. Due to the location of the radiator overflow bottle, the ground wire is not long enough. I had to clip the connector, and extend the ground wire to make the connection.

Second, the location of the relays shown in the directions is not possible because there is not a captive body nut on the USPS, but there is on the USDS.

Once I do a dual battery install, I'll flip the harness and install it properly.

All in all though, the harness is great quality and the connections were great. The lights, in conjunction with the JD HIRs, and most definitely brighter!

First and foremost, Wow!!!- Gavin, that looks amazing... Nice Work!

Secondly: THOSE TACOS L:Wow1:K AMAZING!!!!:sombrero: I haven't had a taco in nearly 6 months, and those look awesome right now... Oh well... 4 months to go...

Third:Sorry for the Hijack, but I have a couple of quick questions- (please keep in mind that I have only ever seen photos of this kind of thing, and have never attempted them, but am willing to)...

How difficult is it to totally disassemble everything (to the point of no wall panels or seats) like the second pic in post 56?
  • Is it a good/reasonable idea to do that with a recently purchased vehicle? To facilitate cleaning, etc... (The 80 I've is my parents, so I'm buying one to mod soon after I come home...)
With all the seats, plastic, carpet, etc, out of the vehicle, would it be a good idea to install all the internal mods that I have available? Would that be a good time to drop the headliner and remove the factory roof rack? With the front seats out, is it easier to install a new head unit for the stereo and a HAM and CB?

Thanks for your input... I'll have to come up to Flag and see that rig when I am back stateside...
[Hijack off...]

Thank you.

It isnt too difficult to take apart the door panels. The proper tools, and some extra clippy thingies and you'll be set. Nothing to it really.

I thought about installing my HAM while the dash was apart, but the whole task had become tiresome and I wanted it back together.

I just finished replacing the t-stat. Went to the local dealership and they gave me the parts for a 1999...not 1991...which I figured out after it was all apart.

NAPA came through, and the wrong parts were returned. I've got the Toyota parts on order and will keep them as spares.

Also, after being admonished by a certain fellow Flagstaffian on my 12V wiring, I wired in a fuse for my fridge....you should be happy now MG.
