The Jolly Green Giant...aka the Recycled Rig

Well, he's not posting so it must be forward progress.

Cool that Robbie is helping you out. He has a VERY good reputation for 80's.

Your right on.

As Redline stated Robbie is kicking this into high gear. :victory: It's amazing that he is so intimate with Land Cruisers that you can hold up a single nut or bolt and he will correctly identify it immediately.

I was in fear that I didn't package and label everything well enough during the disassembly, but that was unfounded when I saw how fast he was identifying nuts and bolts.

Enough words, let's see some pics.

I have a tune in my head:

"It's starting to look a lot like Pistons......" (Christmas tune)

You and I both...This has been a long time coming.

Here are the custom 1.25mm oversized JE pistons. Also visible is the ARP studs for the head. Notice the allen bit recess for removal of the stud while the block is in the engine bay.

Here is the Cometic Multi-Layer Steel head gasket. Visible under the gasket is Hylomar gasket dressing.

Sorry about the poor picture quality. After this I'll start saving for a new camera.

Poor picture quality of the polishing job that the head received.

Here's the first two coats of flat black 1200* engine paint. I will reshoot this with a semi or gloss due to the weird way this paint sprayed.

The old water pump in position until the new one arrives. Apparently I overlooked a new water pump with the three major parts orders to Cdan at Toyota.

Nice. Glad to see it going back together.

Did the machine shop do the porting on the head or did Robbie?

Can't wait to see the final product.

I received my injectors back from WitchHunter Performance. They balanced out at 3.7% difference before they were cleaned and flowed and came out looking good at 0.9% difference!

The flow rates are;

1 303
2 304.5
3 303
4 303
5 304.5
6 303 cc/min @45psi

These should be well fed with the Twin Turbo Supra fuel pump that we replaced the stock unit with. Robbie also has some tuner tricks to help the motor with the supercharger/fuel issue.

Thanks Jack.

The machine shop did the head work as a "Gesture of good will" for my patience with the piston fiasco.

We're just as anxious to hear it run and get a report back on power, mpg, etc. Looks like you are coming down home stretch now.

Isn't it great to have an expert/professional on hand to assist?!!!

You guys are great. As far as the home stretch, Robbie had to take off to the Rubicon for the Rubithon and the Toyota FJ Trail Team gig. So there won't be any more motor updates for about ten days (That's cool because the Long Ranger fuel tank is installed and just needs a few items to be completed).

I honestly fancied myself as an "OK" wrench. Now I know how bad I really am.

While it's not engine related, it is paramount to the build up of the wagon.

When I ordered my 4x4Labs rear bumper, I asked that it be made to fit the Long Ranger aux. fuel tank. Luke Porter is a genius. Without having a tank in house, he moved the rear cross member back so that the top hangers for the tank would bolt onto it instead of the factory supplied brackets included with the tank.

Here's a picture of the tank and bumper before it was fitted onto the truck. We were able to fab about a 3/4 inch spacer to raise the rear of the tank up for some added ground clearance (Bonus). The tank was then coated with a hardening "Bed Liner" type spray paint before the install.

Yeah, but then I'd miss out on all this fun. Robbie said yours ran really well. If we make it to Pismo this year, it will be in the hj45 not the 80. Are you going this year?

Here's the Constant Torque Clamps that we used for the fuel lines as well as the Pesky Heater Hose (PHH) and other heater hoses that were changed to silicone.
