I climbed to the top of Cotopaxi Volcano, at 5,897 meters / 19,344 ft., absolutely the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life.

You can read an account of the whole thing at http://dangrec.com/cotopaxi-summit

I'm back on the road now too, so the updates will roll once again.

Nice job on Cotopaxi ! In the mid 70's I lived in Sucua, Ecuador when I was in the Peace Corps. I took one of my sons back there in 2003 and we hit Cotopaxi. I've done lots of climbing there, and throughout South America, and, like you, love the country. Actually I love all of South America. Stay safe.

Just spent many hours reading your entire blog. What an awsome journey you are on. Looking forward to more updates. Thanks for sharing.

OK, now the locals really are getting too friendly.

It's a shame that hand gestures are universal, I really didn't want to know what he wanted...

I think I took a picture in this exact same spot when I took my trip to Panama last year. On the Mex200 just south of San Juan de Alima.....

Really great blog, adventure and trip you are on Dan! I really enjoy reading of your travels. Although I have not figured out yet how to browse through all your previous posts on your blog.

I hiked in the back way to Machu Picchu to save a ton of money :)
