The Utilitarian-Camper 2nd Gen Tacoma

I like how this is shaping up!! keep the pic's coming!!

Those Aussies have something right about the flat deck idea, glad to see its coming this way!

Are you finished yet? :sombrero:

Not quite :ylsmoke: I have the Flippac mostly dismantaled and just need to finish removing a few things from the upper section of the lid. Since my dead line is quickly approching I may just keep the flippac top section for now as it will speed things up a bit. So the lower section will be aluminum and the flipping part will remain fiberglass. But who knows that could change again. The tent material will be the tricky part as there is no way Im going to put the crappy old tent back on there when Im finished.

Diggin This! Would like to see pics on how you reattach the torsion bar and hinges to the new box. Are you thinking of sewing up the new tent yourself or having the work outsourced? Please take lots of Pics. Awesome build!

What I plan on doing is sleeving the torsion bar hinges in a heavy wall aluminum tube. which will be welded along the top edge of the box. I will then weld in 3 or 4 "bulk heads" to the side walls for added support and to even the load. The advantage to this is (1) its aluminum so no more worry of a rusted out frame. This seems to be a big issue for the Flipacs. (2) I will be able to see if there is any moisture leaking past the seal. The tent is a whole different story. I'm not going to put the original back on so will see what I end up doing. I might farm it out if the price is right but something about sewing up one myself seems fun.
