I just want to point out that there is a substantial ride difference between an HD truck prior to the current generation trucks and the trucks today. All three manufacturers made serious ride and comfort improvements with the current generation trucks. If you are making comments based on something you drove ten years ago, it just doesn’t apply to current HD trucks.

Bringing this back to the original topic - the OP by his own admission got rid of a Power Wagon because it was too big and used too much fuel. And know he's contemplating an F-250?

Seems like building yourself right back into the same box you just got out of. ?‍

It does make me realize though that often times when people seek 'advice' on the internet what they really want is validation. I.e., they've already decided what they want to do and they are looking for someone to tell them it's OK.

The internet is a great place for that because you can ALWAYS find someone to tell you "sure, go ahead!"

Like I said in the first line of the OP, this was more a stream of conscious thread. It was something that kept coming across my mind. The New Chevy ZR2 seems like a great truck, except the payload and tow is horrible and it has the standard midsize issue. A full size bed, or a backseat and a tiny bed. I think the 1st gen tundra did a great job combatting that issue. I also think that alot of the earlier Fords did this. The new Full Size's are huge . I am not trying to live out of my truck.

I have spent some time unhappy with my recent trucks, I would like the creature comforts of a newer vehicle but cant seem to find one to fit my needs.
I dont mind having to park in the back of a parking lot, or a block away in a city.

I also want to be able turn around on a trail.

Most likely, I will do nothing and keep driving my little Taco. I was just curious to hear others opinions.

Find one that is around the 5 yr mark and they are around 15-20k. Add roughly 5-7k in suspension, arb locker, tires, winch and seems to be a great platform.

You mention 5 year old Tundras. I think the 2007 to current Tundras are essentially the same truck. So, size wise they would be the same as most other current half ton trucks. I think the 1st gens's were a little smaller.

A lot smaller. Not much bigger than a new taco.

It seems odd to me that Toyota hasn't made any major changes in the Tundra since '07 and the 4runner since '10.

Unless it's totally clapped out, a 2014+ Tundra isn't selling for $15-20k. $20k+, with the average being most likely $25k.

1st gens are cool. But they still had issues (frame rust, suspension). Good engines (4.7). Cruddy MPG, but that's all Toyota's.

I believe there are redesigned Tundras and F-150's in the works for the 2021 model year.

Now that the F150 and super duty are using the same cab and update to the F150 will be cosmetic only. I’d highly doubt they would do a full update.

I think it will be more than the 2018 update. I'm imaging it will be like comparing an '08 truck to an '09.

Ford is talking about having a Hybrid and electric F150 out for 2021. Time will tell I guess.

I am pretty sure the tundra was redesigned in for 2007 and then again around 2015.

I have owned the 1st gen 2000-2006. They are are a great truck. For me , I am interested in a truck that is in the 5-10 yr range not the 15-20.

I dont mind the 2007-2015'ish tundra that much looks wise. They did come in a really great greenish/brown color, which I always thought was cool . The whole build would probably end up being closer to 30. I do know that that v8 is a gas hog but a great engine.

I just want to acknowledge that as a read all of this posts, I have to just laugh at how much time and over analyzation is going into this ha ha. I think its pretty funny. I guess its better than watching reality TV.

That was a nice brown color! Ford used to offer a nice cariboo color but dropped it at some point. 2018 maybe? I think the '19 new style Rams had a nice brown pearl too but, I think it';s been dropped for 2020...
