Trans-America Trail

HOOLIGAN

The 4x4 Podcast
Kansas back roads are not to bad. I've done a good amount of riding on my 525 on them. I've been talking to some of the other Jeepers here in the K.C. area about doing part of the trail from Oklahoma up into Colorado and maybe jump on the continental divide trail and head back up to I70 and then home next Summer. I've wanted to this on the KTM but that has not worked out. Saw someone had posted pic's of the Rainbow trail, that trail is a hoot on the bike.

You know I'm in.

I have now completed the TAT all the way from Tennessee to Monticello Utah. It is very doable in a jeep to this point. There are some ATV trails in Colorado, I was able to do them but they became pretty narrow in a few places. The biggest problem we encountered was some bad mud and water I western Oklahoma. It came a very nice rain or that wouldn't have been a problem. Most of the trail is weather dependent, lots of it will be challenging in rainy situations but is a nice drive in dry times. It was the trip of a lifetime, you should go if you have the chance.

I am really interested in this since some of the route is some what near to me...well, it is a whole lot closer then most . It kind of scares me that it is so "hush, hush" and the maps seem to high. Makes me sort of afraid it is a scam.......it isnt..is it?

Uh, no, it's not a scam. I only purchased just the Tenn, Arkansas, and Miss for now figuring this could be a great trip for several days. Sam has put a lot of work into these maps and I for one are most appreciative of it.

The TAT is the best ride I've ever done! Well worth the money!

I agree - it's a great ride.

Considering the price of the maps & the frequency that they are updated, I'd suggest only buying the maps that you are actually going to use in the near future. That way when you actually get to the trail, you have the most current version. Roads are constantly being paved, old roads closed, new roads opened, etc. Buying them as you need them will help ensure you have the most current version when you hit the trail.

U.K. 4X4 TRIP TO T.A.T.

Basically proposing a group from U.K. having vehicles shipped out to New Jersey. From there to spend a few weeks completing the T.A.T.
Return journey taking an alternative route via mainly tarmac back roads.
We can use roll on roll off shipping for the vehicles.
Reckon about three or four vehicles max.
Sometime 2015.
Anyone interested?

Hi Rovertrader,
It would be good to have you along if it all works out.
Still in the early planning stages just now, as soon as I have something more definite I will post.
Take care.
Tim.

I also agree - gotta give the respect where due. And part of that is paying for what Sam has put together.
