I found this in the valley when I got the fuel bowl out. Anyone have any ideas what it's for?

As I was tearing apart the fuel bowl the fuel bowl heater just fell apart. I got aggravated and quit. Haha $60 later and the new heater is on order. I will finish disassembling it and cleaning it tomorow. Maybe get part of it back together while waiting on parts.

Mine also fell apart. Here they were more than double that price and not readily availible... and it's not cold enough to need it. So I reassembled it without one. It has made no difference to cold starts or running.

They are $70 off diesel Orings.com in ordered one from them but it wasn't going to get here on time so I got one from the dealership.

I saw them there... But with shipping, exchange, and the delay, it wasn't worth it.

I also talked with local mechanics, and by the time it's cold enough to be needed, the fuel in the tank will be the bigger concern. Since we rarely see freezing, and I'm not going on any artic Expeditions I'm good. If plans change, I can always install one later.

Looks like my glow plug relay did. DieselORings.com sells a monster relay that works Awesome. No trouble, bolts right in... Not a direct replacement.

Yah know just doing research and watching people's build thread I saw those relays and planned on getting one as an upgrade. Buttttttttt i found out mine was shot like 8 hours before a road trip so I bought an oem one. I think I will still upgrade though because I have heard good things. I'm just kinda happy I don't have to replace the glow plugs.

Found out why it didn't like starting in the cold.

I'd not rush to replace your new one... Just replace it when it's getting tired.

My OEM was cracked down the side and the disc looked like an over roasted marshmallow. It clearly hadn't worked in a long time.

I've got a set of glow plus waiting for a rainy day... More like a sunny weekend were I've got nothing better to do. I'm sure the ones in the truck aren't 100%, but given it was starting with none, it seems to be doing fine. On cold days there's a small puff on the first start... Don't know it'll make much difference to replace them.

I too am curious, need to do this to mine.
Alright so I just wrapped up the job. It wasn't too bad. Drain the coolant and oil. Then drain the block. I couldn't get my plug out so I said screw it and just accepted the fact that I was gonna get some coolant on the ground. Remove block heater and take out the threw bolts 10mm if I remember correctly. I pryed the cooler away from the block to let the remaining coolant out. I didn't remove the front housing. Then I used a pry bar and got the cooler and rear housing out. Cleaned it all up and slapped on new Orings from dieselorings.com. I lubed up the Orings and the rear housing and used my press to get the rear on. After that I cleaned up the block and front housing and applied some lube to that as well. I got it all into position and used a pry bar to seat it all the way into the front. There is a solid tab of metal on the block by the exhaust manifolds that works perfectly to send that sucker home with the pry bar. Then I slid the gasket up into place because it fell off during the process. And we'll you know the rest of the process. Probably took three hours total and that was with running to the parts store two times. One of those times Flavor Flav was buying powersteering fluid next to me.

You make it sound pretty easy. Maybe my next LOF I will tackle that as mine leaves a bit of a mess wherever I park for multiple days.
