UJOR Build Thread

Hi Chris,

thanks for that. I don´t want to steal your thread with my personal issues but I think you can help me out easy with some information:

I´ve an 92 Quigley 7.3 IDI N/A E3/60/E4OD from Ford Motor Norge.
BORG WARNER MODEL: 1356 SERIAL# HI92-3-2593 PART # 1 7 56-0 0 0 -0 02
EXTENSION HOUSING QTTX-891
My tranny makes trouble (no OD, and no upshift after a burned alternator/dead batteries (this can be just a fuse or something minor)). Tranny rebuild in Germany are 3500$ + core, so not an option.
Question: Can I swap an E4OD from an F250/350 4x4 into that rig? Tailhouse is different from an 2WD to an 4WD as I´ve seen on pictures. Can it be swapped from an 2WD to fit? What options do I have on sourcing a used one? Getting a used tranny is difficult and expensive but obviously cheaper than a rebuild (for a 20 year old rig).

Will I get any trouble with the electronic controlling of the tranny and where is it located normally? Is this different from a gas to a diesel engine (as the rpm range/ torque curve is so different/ upshift points).

You know these Europeans have no clue from automatic trannys :smilies27

[PS: I already e-mailed Quigley twice but didn´t receive any answer :(]

There's no definite answer to this but of you find a 4x4 transmission from a truck that is the same year as your van (or as close as possible) it should work. But, some other things may need to change due to the way Quigley converts the vans when new. You'll have driveshaft mods for sure, possibly a crossmember change too.

Here's the Quigley getting the aux fuel tank, rear skid is in and I hope to have the tank finished up early next week!

The 7.3 wagon is moving along nicely. Transmission came back today, Aluminess bumper showed up and the front suspension is 90% done. T-case tomorrow so we can measure for shafts and get it rolling out of the shop next week.

A customer from MI was driving thru town so we bolted up his front bumper for him! Nice to see our DIY kits roll thru the shop.

Some of you may remember V6. Bought it last April to be our big project for 2015. V7 put the brakes on that along with the shop expansion so we say hell, lets see if we can get it running. The guy I bought it from said it had a blow head gasket. No clear signs of that but it was;t getting fuel. So, new fuel pump and it started right up! So V6 will be put to work now as the shop rig picking up parts/etc. It's a 2000 5.4, we'll clean it up and drive it until it blows up! Good thing we have unlimited supply of front suspensions and tires....

what mileage could be expected from a 2006 era 6.0 powerstroke short wheelbase E350 ?

I am looking at a stock 2WD. 27K miles on it.

That was a cool spot. Got to watch rigs come down Sledgehammer then head up the parking lot they called Jackhammer. Also had a clear view of Hammertown, listened to all the racing on the radio and even streamed the race off 3G. And having cold beer and a porta potty worked nicely. :sombrero:

Got lots of great comments and stares from everyone around. I should have had some business cards to pass out Chris!

I've been working off n on the front spring hangers for 3 days now, and I've got a whopping 3 holes completed. I'm either the worlds worst hole driller, the frame is made out of tool steel up there, or dewault makes the crappiest steel drilling bits on the planet. Probably should have just welded the damn things on.

If I had it to do again, I am sooo frackin frustrated at the moment, I'd have just driven down to UJor and paid them to drill the stupid things. I think probably the first mistake was opting to source bits local, instead of just buying what Chris uses. Shouldnt have messed with success.

Anyway, whiney ***** mode over. I just need to find someplace around here that has 1/2 & 3/4 bits that are worth a crap. The 3/16 & 3/8 seem to be gettin it done for some reason, but the 1/2s suck great big goats. The first 3/4 lasted 1 hole I think. The last one was doing ok, till it fetched up in the hole and bent the shank. How I managed to do that without breaking a wrist is beyond me, but bend she did. Like a banana.

Anyway, to finish making a short story long, dont buy your bits from Lowes or the like. Suck it up and buy the package from Chris, or find someplace that supplies machine shops and go that route. Otherwise these holes can beat you to death.

Not sure if this was a good way to do it, but I just sprayed something on there to cool them down while I was drilling. You are probably already doing that but, that might help. Im sure I didnt have nice bits and if I remember they lasted for all the holes. Good luck, pretty annoying, that.
