UJOR composite box truck conversion

zip

I prefer social distancing.

I had planned on going with an off the shelf Wabash/Spartan type box. Now reconsidering because of what I have seen others do with composite custom boxes.
It sure bumps the price up though. I have wondered about how the flexing/twisting of the frame impacts the box.
Can anyone share what they know about this?
Is the owner of this vehicle hear on EP?

I liked the initial box truck conversion build U-Joint did a few years ago for a few reasons.

  • The hard-wall construction makes for a bullet proof exterior.
  • The inside can be insulated with foam board.
  • Securing interior build components is more forgiving for DIY.
  • Don't have to build composite box.
  • Possibly less expensive.
  • Already designed to be mounted to van chassis. (no fancy subframe)

The only advantage I see for an FRP skinned foam composite panel box is some weight savings. Not sure how much though. Depends on subframe. Foam board insulation on box truck could also be lower density EPS.
