What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Started the sPod install. Finished mounting the switch panel and routed the main harness before the rains blew in.

Painted the water cap of my AEV rear bumper black. I was tired of people honking and yelling when stopped at traffic lights "you left something sitting on your bumper".

picked up a new d-ring shackle hitch deal, never really know what to call it lol. scored it for free off another XJ owner, the old one i have is the cheap looking one from harbor freight. the shackle that came with that (cheap as well) fits on the new one, i had a d-ring laying around and had to shave off a bit of metal to make it fit on the cheap one, doesn't fit on the new beefy one at all, i love the look of the one i had laying around, hate the new cheap one, so i need to buy a new shackle that will fit the new beefy one, then i will just throw the new one up front when/if i get a front hitch.

found out today that i will be using it for an elk hunt the weekend after thanksgiving, which means, i have until then to: install a new header, suspension/possible lift, potentially get junk yard 4.0 head, hot tank it, port and polish, valve job, install, port match intake.

i will be towing up the old family trailer, it has been around ever since i can remember, i believe it is 16' long, 6' wide, just a general haul everything trailer, really beat up, but it does the job, it will be loaded with 2 55 gallon drums, one filled with water, the other filled with gas, will also be full of all the camping stuff, enough stuff for a week long stay, on the way out it will be possibly hauling out an elk, and maybe some firewood as well, it is alot to ask of the jeep but i know it can handle it, and hell, once i am up there i get to show my dad why my XJ is better than his new JK! tomorrow i will get pix of the jeep hooked up to the trailer.

as far as actual stuff i did today, i got ahold of a spare tire cover from my dad's JK, he got 31s and the cover fits my stock 29s so i threw it on the spare in the XJ, might as well represent my local Jeep dealership (Moore Jeep in Peoria, AZ)

Got it back from the Jeep dealer. They installed Alloy rear axles in the Dana 35. Spartan Lockers front and rear. New brakes on the rear. The front lockers make alot more noise then the rear one does. I hope that is normal. We leave tomorrow for a 10 hour tow to Padre Island for some beach offroading. I would hate to have issues way down there. But that is why I let the dealer do the install.

Last night I finally finished making all the repairs to it from deer damage and hydrolock damage and drove it to work today! I kind of had to out of necessity, I'm out of vehicles that run. On my way home from work yesterday on the Sportster it died on the side of the road and I had to hitch hike home, looks to be the ignition switch on that. And being a 2008 that stupid thing won't be cheap to repair. My pickup is out of service because the hood release cable broke one day when I went to add oil and I haven't had a chance to find a fix for that yet and don't want to drive it low on oil. The only other car we have that runs is the Soobie and my wife needed that to drive around today, so I picked the easiest vehicle to fix just so I could commute and it happened to be my jeep.

if you can reach, go the "thief's route" reach up into the engine bay from under the engine compartment (if you know where the cable runs) and if you pull on the cable right it should release the hood.. then its just a matter of replacing the cable, adding oil, if you want to be super cool you can just get rid of that junk and go with hood pins :sombrero:

priced out a junk yard head to build up today, 150 for what i hope is the right casting code, guaranteed to be rebuild-able by the junk yard, then i just need to buy a valve spring tool, and everything that goes in the head from the rocker arms, valve springs, valves, retainers, valve seats etc...then the grinding stuff to port and polish. and i'm in business.

I took off work today to get the Jeep ready for Padre Island. First I finished a canoe rack to be able to carry the canoe as well as a place to store the Hilift jack and the JACK ANCHOR portable ground anchor. I connected an extention hitch to the back of the F450 flatbed. Now I can carry gear on the back rack and tow the Jeep or a trailer.
